Hi all,
I have just finished my V1 Rx8 EV conversion... Video link below to information. It is woefully under powered so I am thinking of the Leaf Route.
Someone commented on one of the videos I made to come here, finding out it is about Rx8 - Leaf I was over the moon!!!
Cheers
Dave

Excellent video and great to see a completed project. All the hard work is out of the way and next is the upgrades

Welcome to the forum Dave, really looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
I'm more of a lurker here but hoping to do something similar soon.

Hay, thanks for the welcome,
I have been going slightly nuts over the last few days. I simply want to find an inverter that will produce around 30kw of power @ 100-120v that I can program to fit my existing motor. This is the first upgrade for my car.
OH MY GOD, what a minefield of devices and information. Best fit I found was the Sevcon Gen4 devices - but at £750 for the device and £800 for the software to program it I am still looking!
Is it really that complex to program an inverter to a motor? Being a developer myself with basic electrical knowledge (i did build an ev afterall!) I figure it cannot be that hard?
The inverter described here - v3 - is that a kit I can buy, build and program?
I feel the market is screaming out for some standards that allow this to be far easier - the motor should 'know' what it needs and tell whatever controller it is plugged into.
rant over haha!

I'm thinking the fastest and cheapest route would be this: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=488
No it's not that hard to program an inverter to a motor

Just seen your latest video, mounting the leaf motor. Nice work!
I'm the one who commented about the costs / benefits of mounting batteries behind the front bumper.
I thought i'd bring the discussion here, as several rx-8 conversions will have very similar decisions to make!
