EM61 or EM57 motor

Post by SciroccoEV »

I've got the option of either motor and will probably be separating the motor and inverter anyway.

From what I've been able to find online, the inverter integration with the motor and a change to cheaper magnet materials were the only significant changes for the EM57, but I've not been able to find anything on performance differences between the two.

Does anyone have any information?

I found EM61 motor easier as standalone installation to existing cars gearbox. It is more round shape easier to conform to... But if used with original gbx both should be fine.

Personally I think the 61 is better motor with more hidden power. Since they made it first and tested it. Later on they optimised production for 57 which always means some cuts... They optimised with magnets and stator wire alloy.

Arlin demonstrated 61 can field 300hp! I haven't seen results for 57.

Well, based on that I have an EM61 with inverter and cabling on its way for £1000 delivered.

You wont be sorry. My Pug runs really good with one side of Volt inverter. Also a friend uses 61 with Mazda RX8 and original transmission. His system was 200Vdc but we will optimise to 360Vdc 96S. Should run up to 200km/h without FW.

I thought I was getting a Gen1 Motor, Inverter and interconnect wiring...

The delivery truck turned up just as I was about to set off to get the van MOT'd, so I had to get the pallet unloaded very quickly and shoved onto my property before rushing off to make my appointment.

Upon my return I started peeling off the layers of pallet wrap and cardboard. What I saw first was the end of a pair of driveshafts. Once fully exposed is became clear that I had essentially the complete contents of a Gen1 Leaf front compartment, Motor, Inverter, Gearbox, driveshafts, pumps, water heater, even the charge ports.

Well chuffed!

If I made new rear suspension links and a mounting subframe, it might just be possible to use the Leaf motor and gearbox rear mounted in the Excel.

Nice one!
I hope you don't mind my asking but I had originally planned to get a Gen2 Leaf motor and use Johu's replacement logic board but I ended up with a complete Gen1 Leaf so now have to decide how to control the inverter. Any advice for a total novice? Would I be best to go for Damiens VCU?
Thanks
I need a bigger hammer!
