Leaf motor not spinning, and pinswap not working?

Post by Zieg »

Hi all, hoping to get some help here from someone more knowledgeable of the hardware than myself. I'm not certain, but hoping the issue is just that the "set pinswap 6" command isn't saving, or something. I have tried typing it into the command field and it seems to be accepted, but when I download the parameters, pinswap doesn't show up anywhere. I can add it to the parameters and upload the file, then download it again and it's gone.

Details:

Currently on the 5.32 FW, using the parameters Johu posted (but changed the precharge, LVC, throttle type etc to match my setup). What it's doing is juddering, and also giving LORESAMP error.

Brief timeline of things I tried:

-Originally was on 5.14 FW out of the box, was getting spinning but would not speed up when pressing the accelerator and was actually spinning the wrong direction. Did not even try pinswap.

-Updated to 5.32, tried to do the pinswap (which maybe didn't work), motor was just singing (not juddering). No LORESAMP error.

-Checked my resolver wiring and realized I might have had 2 wires backwards (pins 17/18 swapped at the connector). Swapped those physical pins and now it is juddering instead of singing. Turning the output shafts by hand, I do see the angle going up. LORESAMP comes up after pressing the accelerator.

Here's the resolver wiring I'm using (My motor didn't come with a harness so I had to buy the plug and wire it myself).

I'm also attaching my most recent parameters for reference.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm hoping it's just a matter of getting that pinswap parameter to work, but I don't understand why it seems like it's not saving. Any help would be appreciated!

So you type
set pinswap 6
Send
Refresh. What does pinswap display now?
Then start.

Of course with a homebuilt harness the pinswap 6 might not be needed, only pinswap 4.

Well the harness should he the same as the OEM pinout, if the diagram I posted is correct.

So I should be seeing pinswap in the spot values? I just tried it again, typed it out, hit send, get message "set ok", refresh but still don't see anything about pinswap in the parameters or spot values. Do I have to do something else to enable custom commands? Or maybe try it on an older FW revision?

Oh its a board you bought from me?
Then pinswap is hidden. Type
flag pinswap !hidden
To display it
It's in the inverter category

Okay, got it to show up, thank you. Does this look correct? Still getting the juddering, so if the pinswap looks good I think I need to keep searching for the cause. Appreciate the help so far!

Just tried pinswap 4 and that also didn't help.

Should I be worried about the LORESAMP error that comes on after pressing the accelerator? Or is it probably fine since I can see the angle changing when turning the driveshafts by hand?

I'm surprised it only shows up when pressing the accelerator, should appear right at the start. LOREAMP means the feedback voltage from the resolver is too low. May be time to do some scoping. You can also measure the exciter voltage with the AC mode of a multimeter. It should be about 3V rms. The return signal has varying amplitude but at least one of them should be around 1V rms.

Aha, you were right! I saw you mention the 3vrms value elsewhere and went to try it. I wasn't able to probe it with the plug in place, so I decided to check the wires in the meantime. One of them had higher resistance than the others, got worse when I jiggled it. Redid that run and now it works! It must have been just on the edge of throwing the error or not?

Well anyway, THANK YOU! It's spinning and even changing speed with the accelerator, which it didn't do before. So either a bad crimp or a break inside the wire must have been the problem. Appreciate the help!
