Hello everyone.
Im exploring the possibility of converting my Vauxhall Vivaro LWB 2012 van to electric.
First thing is it possible? or is just too big to convert? if so what drive train would you recommend and battery system?
any advice would be very welcome
thanks
Morgan

Re: Vauxhall Vivaro LWB van
Welcome to the forum Morgan.
Can you give us some more information about the van? Motor HP, top speed, curb weight, load capacity, etc?
Can you also tell us something about how you use the van? How long are your regular trips? What weight is carried, etc?
Also some idea of your budget and mechanical and electronic skill level?

Of course it is possible
With a big van calculate 30kWh/100km so you'll need a battery pack with adequate energy for your range requirement.
Motorwise any OEM drive train should work apart from the Twizy
Tesla, Leaf, Lexus GS etc.

Re: Vauxhall Vivaro LWB van
Hi
I am Kit,
I am also looking at this conversion.
Currently driving a 2.5 TD lwb crewcab from 2005
Max gross vehicle weight 3.5 tonnes,
Torque @230ftlb, HP @140 for an unmolested ecu..
looking for up to 200mile range.
I was thinking of using a Leaf motor through the standard gearbox as this is front wheel drive. Batteries dependent on what is available when I am looking,
Maybe have to start small and add more later.
Thanks Kit

The Leaf motor is unproven in heavy duty applications and you might want to consider the Siemens motor that was used in the Ford Transit and is an extremely robust solution;

I think 80kW continuous should be more than sufficient to move a van around. It is water cooled so heat dissipation can be scaled up by the size of the used radiator.
I know the e-NV200 is much smaller but still, the same motor is used there.

ENV200 not heavy enough?Kevin Sharpe wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 11:09 pm The Leaf motor is unproven in heavy duty applications and you might want to consider the Siemens motor that was used in the Ford Transit and is an extremely robust solution;
Given the poor reputation of the Renault Traffic (Vauxhall Vivaro) gearbox at various points in its life...
At one time if you typed 'Renault Traffic' into Google, it auto-completed with 'gearbox faiure'! The real horror was when they were using the Laguna engine and box and the box was known to be potentially unreliable in the Laguna.

200 mile range? At what average speed? I think you’ll need quite some batteries (at least full tesla pack) to get those figures when doing highway cruising. City traffic is probably possible with smaller pack.

The OP said the requirement is for 3.5 tons... as I said the Leaf motor is unproven with that work load.
