Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
Ah thats a bit annoying. I have heard though that you can just "turn up" and you'll usually get in (certainly to dragweek). I think that while they're full, they inevitably get no-shows from folks who have paid but for whatever reason arent ready in time. So there are usually spots availa...

Re: [WIP] "Lexus Swapped" Subaru FR-S 86 (GS300h)
I don't know anything about those particular batteries, but 17.7kWh is significantly less than the 1st gen LEAF (24kWh) and would not get you anywhere near 100 miles of range. Perhaps 40-50 miles. I agree. With 22kWh of capacity to stone-cold dead, I got almost exactly 50 miles. Granted, I don't kn...

Re: [WIP] "Lexus Swapped" Subaru FR-S 86 (GS300h)
A quick update: I have the car mostly stripped. The dang ICE motor is still in it though for the time being. Have ordered an Inverter + transmission from Sendico but it has not been a straight forward process. We'll see if/when I get them and how much they cost. A side note- I found some Enerdel ba...

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
Sick Week 2024 next? :D Unfortunately, no. Signup for Sick Week was the Sunday immediately after Drag Week, and I just could not afford that registration after the money poured into getting the car to and through Drag Week. (in my opinion, terrible planning by the Sick team, but I'm sure there was ...

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
The '40 made it in a magazine! Sick the Mag is a magazine created to cover drag and drive events like Hot Rod Magazine's Drag Week, Rocky Mountain Race Week, etc. The magazine now hosts its own series of events including Sick Week, Sick Summer, Death Week and the Sick Shootouts. The '40 got a two pa...

Re: Electric cars catch fire in Florida after flooding
As we saw with Proton's car and with Johu, a fire cannot be ruled out with our conversions. I would like to take this opportunity to discuss what we can do. P.S. Mangelsdorf has posted a link to the NHRA rules elsewhere. This requires a water connection on the battery box. I've been thinking about ...

yes - tesla did change anything, i have one tesla model 3 and one plaid battery with other decoding of this adresses - but the rest looks simular. For the refresh X/S you have more modules and you can query this simular like the smaller 3/Y ones. but on this address i think tesla did it completly o...

I recall reading a while back that the oil companies convinced people that steam powered carriages were dangerous because they could get burned with the steam, so they sold them gasoline powered horseless carriages instead I mean what's not to like ? cugnot-repro-drive-off.jpg Ok to be fair, there ...

Re: Electric cars catch fire in Florida after flooding
The environmental damage of lithium mining receives frequent coverage while the continuous, ongoing oil spillage in West Siberia is mostly unheard of. (And I didn't even find it on English Wikipedia) Oh absolutely! All the shouting about that, and (legitimate) concerns about China's dominance of th...

Ok I've got questions. Why is this car being parted out if it wasn't in an accident? and at such low miles?
The price is enticing but I'd like to know a little more.

Sounds like once again Tesla has randomly changed things. You may have to try to figure out the new data/offset/gain. In fact, you may have more info on this than anyone else, unfortunately.

Re: Electric cars catch fire in Florida after flooding
I think the general public has a hard time separating two important points about EVs and fires 1) frequency and 2) controllability. They see stories about how difficult EV fires are, and assume the frequency is much higher than it is. Several family members of mine are first responders, and there ar...

fweak : yours is 238 mine 220. Not that big difference. I'll try that value. fweakstrt : You have 320 vs my 290. Pretty close These are big differences for these values. To quote from JonVolk's LDU tuning guide: 238hz will stick my slicks ... Bringing this to 233hz will just burn the slicks. 258hz ...

Re: Newb Asks: Can anybody just charge at a Tesla public station?
Destination Chargers have a slower charging speed than Superchargers. Depending on how much charge is left on your Tesla’s battery, a Destination Charge can take anywhere from one to 12 hours to fully charge your vehicle. It's my understanding that the destination chargers are AC charging using the...

Re: No parameters?
The bottom line is that the Wifi board is not communicating with the Control board. This may have a variety of causes: - Connection issues on the TX and RX lines on either side (any of those wires gets cut, comms break down, sometimes even the pins being shakey does it). I've had the wifi board com...

Re: Is it possible to make a CCS to CHAdeMO adapter?
This is very interesting. I've a friend who has an old Nissan leaf and was worried in future as chargers move away from Chademo to NACS/CCS in US - this type of adapter come very handy. Would be interested to understand the conversion from CCS/greenPHY/IP to CAN/SWCAN based comm. I understand @Johu...

Re: Newb Asks: Can anybody just charge at a Tesla public station?
Then we need to figure out how to pretend you're charging a Ford F150 or other "deal" car  One step at a time! :) We've got to see if it's an issue first. Then shenanigans. (also, the issue there will likely be that the standard does support plug and charge (though it sounds like...

Re: No parameters?
Try power cycling and re-connecting. Give it about 30 seconds between power off and power back on. Its a known issue that sometimes the parameters don't show up because the connection drops. Also make sure whatever device you're using isn't trying to jump over to another wifi network mid-connection....

Re: Newb Asks: Can anybody just charge at a Tesla public station?
In Europe, that's pretty much how it works, it's all though the app. That's what gives me hope, but I'm concerned by the phrasing in all these announcements of deals here in the states that they may do something different and only open it to cars from manufacturers that have made a deal with them.

Re: Newb Asks: Can anybody just charge at a Tesla public station?
The short answer is "Not yet" in North America. The longer answer I've spent a lot of time thinking about and trying to plan for. Here's what we know: - The publicly published NACS standard from Tesla confirmed that they are now using the CCS communication protocols. - Stations with the &q...

Re: Tesla LDU board problem
Yeah but if the antenna is outside the case, you have to connect to it somehow, and unless there is a way to tap an unused pin on the 23 pin, that means a new connection through the case.jrbe wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 6:39 pm There are plenty of options, and one thats IP67, https://www.digikey.com/short/905939t9

Re: Tesla LDU board problem
The ESP32 has an option with a u.fl connector on it to plug in an external antenna. Is this worth pursuing at all? Only downside I could think of is if its noticed during inspection. I'm not sure how it would do with vibration. I added a zip tie hole on the gen 3 leaf adapter board for an antenna w...

Re: Solution for not working Gen2Chargers with replacement boards
There have been various reports in this forum about Gen2Chargers not working with the replacement boards. I just had two like that. My solution: The internal CAN bus must be terminated with a total of 60 ohms! Since there is no termination on the three charger modules themselves, there must be a te...
