Don't you just hate those chargers that don't even show charge rate.
Saw a video recently (Gridserve's Ecotricity replacements I think), which actually showed voltage, current and kW - that's what we want!

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
Maybe also see if we can find someone with access to third-party BMW service tools to see if they have anything about LIM coding to the car. For example :

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
The "No VIN" behaviour is potentially encouraging though. And there is probably a way to program the VIN into it (at least a blank unit), or maybe read it out. Worst case, find a suitable volunteer with an i3, Have its LIM suffer a "mysterious" failure under warranty and send it ...

Re: BMW LIM based CCS2 Controller
I think CCS has a minimum voltage of 200V - apparently this is why very few electric motorbikes support CCS, as they typically have lower battery voltages

paper on CCS test system
This paper, describing a charger compatibility test system has some descriptions of the CCS charge process which might be helpful to anyone trying to get their head round things :

Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller
Looking at the BMW LIM , I think that looks like the better option than the Hyundai for multiple reasons - better availability, reasonable price (even if you have to buy a new one), contactor support etc. I'm happy to do some logs of mine while charging if anyone really wants it, but I'll wait to se...

Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller
I've taken some logs - attached - not actually CCS charging yet, but I did give it a 5% PWM on CP, which is the indicator for DCFC. This thinks about it for about 10 secs then gives a red chargeport light, and a "Check DC charger" error next time you start, so it probably involves the CCS ...

Re: Instagram CCS
Is the datasheet for the QCA7000 available? Also, the line interface looks like it's aimed at powerline applications, probably differential - might needs some mods for the single-ended CCS application. Shouldn't be too hard to compare the coupling circuit on the board with one on a car CCS controlle...

Re: CCS EVSE and Car side
Someone could, for example, write a document encapsulating the same information, e.g. substituting code for a flowchart, renaming symbolic names etc. In order to do this you would need access to a registered document and this would result in a violation of the "otherwise exploit" IEC lice...

Even just re-writing the same information ( lists of commands etc.) would be OK. The IEC disagree - "YOU may not lend, lease, reproduce, distribute or otherwise exploit, whether commercially or not, the IEC Publication(s) to which this Licence Agreement relates." https://www.iec.ch/websto...

Laugh at me but I just found out what GreenPHY is: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/HomePlug#HomePlug_GreenPHY It is said to be compatible with "Homeplug AV2". So buying a cheap powerline adapter would already let you tap into the communication physically. I know there's a few projects here ...

I think you may be able to at least get it to start trying PLC comms by giving it a 5% CP signal - if nothing else this may spit out some error messages.

Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller
Bear in mind that the 77kW limit may well be coming from the BMS, not this CCS box, which could be a fairly simple protocol converter that the BMS talks to.
