Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

Nice, a magnifier can be invaluable too, so good move. Damian.io's advice about flux is worth taking note of too, it can really help, but clean it off after you're done. Isopropanol is the best stuff for getting excess flux off, but I've also used meths in the past.

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

If you don't have hot air then 0805 should be easy enough with an iron. Have a practice first if you're not confident (you can get practice boards, google "0805 practice board").

I don't know how many you got made up, but well done.

I'm certainly happy with mine and I'd recommend getting a tested board to others. I hope you get to do another batch soon.

Re: Testing FOC for synchronous motor

Ah OK, I'm drawing pretty low currents with my low voltage and no load on the bench, I did notice faster ramp up with throtcur = 3 over throtcur =1. Variable max power/torque is something I want to implement in my car anyway, so a max amperage is perfect for that I think. I appreciate that things ar...

If it's resistors and capacitors, get any with the same tolerance and power rating as in the BOM.

Re: Testing FOC for synchronous motor

Did some bench testing today, seems a lot better. I don't have any regen. When I come off the throttle at max rpm (1200rpm running at 60V) there is a sudden drop in rpm followed by a long slowdown. I need to play with parameters maybe? Could we have a brief explanation of the new params and their ex...

Re: Leaf powered RX8

Thought I'd just give a quick update. I've been slowly but surely stripping out all the oily bits, I was hoping it was going to be a bit quicker than this, but whoever worked on various bits of the car before doesn't seem to have believed in torque wrenches and everything appears to have been done u...

Good to see you're getting the bugs ironed out. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some testing tomorrow evening. Motor's still on the bench though.

Yup just got an email saying they were looking to wind things up at their Leamington Spa facility in the next 2-3 weeks and they still have approximately 40k cells left.

Re: VW Touran powered by Nissan Leaf [FINISHED]

Looks like you've got a fair amount of variation there. For the really low ones you could try bringing them up to around nominal voltage slowly and see if they manage to hold the charge.

Looks like a really good project. Must admit I was a bit surprised to see them using Fasttech as a distributor :o.

For anyone who doesn't know Fasttech are one of the more reliable chinese sites. I've personally boosted their profits by a fair amount over the last few years...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

EDIT: did anyone make a drawing of Leaf main board in Design spark. If i have layout i can quickly draw Lebowski board on that. Some time ago Bas told me it doesnt absolutely need three current sensors to run. I don't know if you can import a gerber into design spark? My 2nd gen adaptor board has g...

Re: Porsche 911 - will a Nissan Leaf drive train do it justice?

Higher state of charge = lower internal resistance in my experience. 2mohm sounds reasonable. I looked at some reviews of the SM8124A and they seem favourable, one comparison with results of other testers showed how different they all are... If the pack is reasonably well balanced it may be more pra...

Re: Porsche 911 - will a Nissan Leaf drive train do it justice?

I probably ought to expand on my previous post. About 4 or 5 years ago I made a shunt based DC internal resistance tester for hobby LiPos. It worked on the principle of expected voltage drop across the shunt for the measured current vs the actual voltage drop. The internal resistance was calculated ...

All may be correct, or none.

How are you testing? What is the state of charge for the tests?

Re: Porsche 911 - will a Nissan Leaf drive train do it justice?

I'm still in the removing oily bits stage too :) I'm pretty sure you won't get 300hp out of a leaf pack, not if you want to use it more than once anyway. Decent power with longevity requires either a high capacity pack or active thermal management, preferrably both I think. The Volt pack has a reall...

Re: Porsche 911 - will a Nissan Leaf drive train do it justice?

I'm aiming for around 150-170KW through the leaf power stage. If this isn't possible I'll go for a different power stage. I don't think I've seen any hard figures on what's possible. What batteries are you planning on using? I personally think that choice of battery is as important as choice of cont...

Re: Inverter Firmware v4.56.R

Ah OK thanks, I'm running it at 60V on the bench, so I think I should be fairly safe then?

I've started removing all the ICE stuff from the car, slow but steady progress. I won't be going full voltage until the motor is in the car.
