Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!

I too very much like this type of car, so simple and just bare miniumum of what you need. It crossed my mind many timed to build my own but have never got to it. Not shure if this is what you are implying but if you remove a couple of cells from the #3 module and place it as far back as possible in ...

Re: Gen 3 inverter converter control software

Should the charging current go through it? Right? And it is controlled by the STM-32 controller. Or make an external control of MG2_DCSW_OUT_2 or send a START signal to MG2_START_IN_58. Yes, I ran it with all current going through it, controlled byt the STM32. Yes that's right. HV_CON shorts the lo...

Re: Gen 3 inverter converter control software

What are your options for controlling the main contactor "MAIN_CONN" ? I don't understand your question? The main conctactor is controlled by the inverter. It will activate when you send "start" signal (via CAN or direct on start pin) if dc bus voltage is above "udcsw"...

Re: Gen 3 inverter converter control software

Q1) If I remember correctly, adjust offset, with zero voltage present, until you read 0V. Then adjust gain (v/bit) with voltage present until ypu read correct voltage. Q2) Looks correct. No resistor required in parallel with HV_CON. Q3) Don't think it is mandatory but adds another layer of protectio...

Re: Prius Gen3/Auris/Yaris inverter coolant temperature sensor

I think this will work:
image_2023-02-08_065011709.png
Always keeps input above 2V, hence reads as digital high but still enough room to measure coolant temperature with enough accuracy.

A lot of footprints can be downloaded from mouser.com, or other large electronic suppliers.

EDIT: You need to create a free account to be able to download footprints from mouser.

Re: Peugeot 306 '98 conversion

I have a question for people with more experience than me. Below I have compiled the connector from the dual_v1d board and the resolver from the outlander rear drive unit, is this connection correct? No, S3 and S4 does not go to ground. Should be connected to MG2_ENC_1 and MG2_ENC_2, one to each. T...

Re: Is it worth trying to use this prius brain board?

Yes, that looks like the dual motor board.
If you are planning to run a Yars or Auris inverter the smaller version board is the correct one.
Yes, to run with non stock motor you will need a replacement logic board. Can't use the Toyota board.

Re: Gen 3 Inverter ... Failure To Invert

I'm not shure but I think you have to put the inverter in "run" first and then "manual run" to get it to work.
To set the inverter in run, you need to supply 14V to start pin only for a short period of time (<1s).

Re: Smart Roadster (with Prius Gen3 Inverter and Outlander Rear Motor)

Thanks for that, appreciate it. It's pretty much what I was expecting but nice to have it confirmed. That's a pretty good result, surprisingly good in fact, and pretty much at the limit of what can realistically be expected. Is that with a standard EVBMW board? It is a EVBMW board but it is modifie...

Did the "get il1" test. Inverter in car, in run mode, gear N selected.
I get +-0.37A with one 0.75A and twice 0.56A with approx 100 commands sent spread over both il1 and il2.

Re: Prius Gen3/Auris/Yaris inverter coolant temperature sensor

Just realized the the above wount work.
The Uaux pin is the same as the mprot and if you pull this pin "low" it will trigger PWM stop in the inverter => no good.

Yes, that the one. My plan is to connect it like this, where TMPCO goes to the ADC: image_2023-02-01_052232236.png EDIT: Using a gain of 4 on the Uaux signal in the OI CAN-interface and then rxBuf is the CAN-data: const int8_t tempMap[49] = {-20,-18,-17,-15,-13,-11,-10,-8,-7,-5,-4,-2,-1,0,2,3,5,6,7,...

Prius Gen3/Auris/Yaris inverter coolant temperature sensor

I've done measurements on the coolant sensor that exist in the Prius Gen2, Auris and Yaris inverters. I can conclude that it is a 2kohm NTC with a beta of 3664 according to measurements done at 25degC and 50degC. The sensor is connected to the logic board but doesn't go anywhere after the input filt...

Re: Smart Roadster (with Prius Gen3 Inverter and Outlander Rear Motor)

Just measured it, 32.6mA on the 26V rail and 10.9mA on the -5V rail, so the +5V rail must be sinking around 20mA (just moved the meter into the 5V link to check - 21.9mA). Not sure an op-amp generated 5V rail would be too happy with that. I assume this is for on pair of CT:s, i.e. measured on the c...

Hm, found this reference/LDO to supply the +3V3 to both processor and VDDA. Not cheap though, starting at €7.

Re: Smart Roadster (with Prius Gen3 Inverter and Outlander Rear Motor)

The load on the +3V3 voltage rail and hence the +5V rail is far from constant when using the WiFi-module and also the CAN-tranciever creates noticable load changes. I had a lot of spikes in the position measurement due to +3V3 fluctuation when I first started messing with the OI board. I have now a ...

Re: Smart Roadster (with Prius Gen3 Inverter and Outlander Rear Motor)

Interesting! What reference voltage would you use? The +5V rail isn't the best as it will still drift and a +5V precision reference powered from +12V or +26V will be resonable solid. Wouldn't you want the +5V ref signal to the CT to drift with the ADC supply voltage i.e. powered from the same voltag...

Re: Wanted: 500V 30kW charger / Prius G3 + logic board ? [SOLD]

Regarding the CAN-bus, it is referenced to the 48V negative output in order to get reliable communication. When they are connected in series all units have different potential at there 48V negative output hence can-isolators are needed. I do not know if the R4850G2 can better handle all CAN-buses co...

Re: Wanted: 500V 30kW charger / Prius G3 + logic board ? [SOLD]

Well, in the FlatPacks case they are specified 500Vdc to earth. image_2023-01-28_141042577.png So should be almost within spec with 9 in series. I have 7 isolated CAN buses, one for each FP to control them. One of the FP are doing the current limitation and the others just tags along and supplies a ...

Alright, the over-modulation do indeed increase power with approx 10%. I got, from battery, 45A @ 387V @ 70km/h compared without over-modulation 40A for the same case. That SW stays in the car! Would be a good idea as Johu already suggested to make modmax a parameter in the future. The log from my v...

Sounds to me like the main contactor hasn't closed. With only precharge relay closed, as soon a you draw current, the voltage will drop.
Have you verified that the contactor control is correct?
