Re: The SuperYacht BMW E65 7 Series

Can't wait for the youtube comments when they see me working away with bare hands, no flash suit and no $$$ orange tools :) I believe it goes "Damien, you're doing it wrong"... Funnily enough, I'd just posted about PPE on the DIY Electric Vehicles Facebook page with the obligatory link to...

Re: Openinverter Parameter Setting Procedure for Beginners

I had another thought, is auto-tuning of a motor possible, if the motor and resolver parameters are known? Like an automated FOC tuning process like in the recent videos by yourself and Damien, but using sensor feedback to know when the tune is correct?

Re: Parameter database

Assuming that vehicle weight and wheel diameter are factors that would effect the tune, is it worth including that, or is there another calculation for that? Final drive ratio for RWD or AWD (if a motor with reduction gear is centre mounted, in place of a transfer case) may also be a factor.

CHAdeMO to 3 phase AC bridge

Hi, I've been considering buying a Renault Zoe ZE40, as Renault are dropping the Zoe from their lineup here in Australia, and new old stock or dealer demo models are selling for around 30% off the standard list price (List is $52,860 AUD including on road costs, most for sale are $36,990 AUD includi...

Did you find anything useful in the OpenDBC link I posted above? I suspect it also won't have any HV data, but it may be worth a look.

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?

BMW have issued a recall on a number of their PHEV models, due to the potential of contamination within the packs, which may cause a short. It's worth checking them carefully before use.

What components are required for an EV conversion

While the components may be covered in detail in the EV conversion hardware thread in General (https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=335), it would be great to get a basic list of what components are required to do an EV conversion. There are the obvious items such as: - Motor (stan...

If I find any similar resources, I'll add links to them.

Is there an appropriate section of the Wiki to link from? Should pages be created for each OEM and then tables for models?

Re: Openinverter Parameter Setting Procedure for Beginners

This spawns an idea. What if you had a button on the web interface saying "Post my parameters to openinverter". It would then ask things like motor model, inverter model, nominal battery voltage as metadata to go along with the parameters. On the server side I'd set up a small database th...

Re: Converting a modern vehicle to electric

The inevitable travel down the rabbit hole has begun. It seems that each manufacturer has DBC files to define what each CAN message means, to put them in a more human readable format. There seems to be a fair bit of work out there to reverse engineer CAN messages to build the DBC files. George Hotz'...

Which Toyota inverter suits which board?

Reusing existing EV and Hybrid components is a great idea, and the work that the Open Inverter project has done, is great, but for new players, it can be difficult to know which inverter to get that one of the Open Inverter brain boards will work in. Using the Toyota inverters as an example, which s...

Yes, the newer motors are Bosch SMG 180/120's, good for around 100 kW, used in the rear of the Peugeot 508 Hybrid, the Fiat 500e, and others.
