Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3

Loving your battery install btw. Looks great there. Shame it couldn't flush mount. I think that's a good solution to most DIY EVers too. Don't plan for the perfect. Spend a little money, do it sooner. Get it to drive 30 miles at a time off a small pack that's fairly discretely installed. Spend extra...

I mean, how often are you going to get the chance to race TWO DIY EVs from the same year?

Not my first rodeo, I have "built" or ruined a half a dozen of cars in my life so this comes easy, In as much as strangers can observe and judge each other, I'd say you're not good at anything (I dunno, maybe you're an okay father), but you're pretty good at almost everything. And you're ...

For $500, that's a fantastic deal for someone who wants an EV. Just add batteries and go. Heck of a steal.

See? Here you were doubting me that you could convert at 1984 Rabbit in a weekend if you throw some money at it.

64 pulses per revolution. Change numimp to 64 I'm not sure that's actually what that's saying, it just quotes one possible encoder as having 64. But, that's a better guess than I have for any other number. If I disassemble the motor am I going to find an encoder with a number on it that I could loo...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller

You may require slightly different gains thanks to less than identical component layout? (Just guessing) I’d verify with a current clamp. Don't have a DC clamp meter. Might have a big DC shut and meter around somewhere. Accuracy of the current doesn't bug me unless it uses that to know how to turn ...

You sure about that? This is why SuperFastMatt says never to write down the actual list of stuff to do. Because as soon as you start writing it down you realize how much work it actually is. could I convert it to electric in 100 days or less? I hate you. I'm on week #2 of trying to replace u-joints. Not even a part, it's a part of a part. ... why would you use MG1?

It's weaker than MG2.

It's in the same housing as MG2.

It's in the same inverter case as MG2.

Re: [WIP] - Self-propelled Travel Trailer/Home Energy System

For safety of course you wouldn’t want to ever “push” the trailer more than the tow vehicle is pulling Ehn, there's been some back and forth about this. To my mind, it's no different than braking while the trailer pushes. To others, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen and the sky will fall if you ...

I'm not sure that cutting springs was the correct solution here. I'm fuzzy on it, but, IIRC cutting springs does 2 things: 1 - For the same weight on the spring, it starts lower. Obviously, as you cut a ring off. 2 - For the same weight on the spring, it's stiffer (17% stiffer in your case, because ...

Well... First up, keep in mind that you're probably not losing slow speed acceleration. Even with low voltage you'll still have some pep there. You'll be losing your higher speed acceleration. 22kw is enough to maintain highway speed, but not enough to get to highway speed. ... For the same cost, ar...

I am not clear on 'where' I should document this. Well like many open source projects, the Wiki is a Do-Ocracy. Those willing to do the work decide how it should be done. I would create a... nevermind... Do-ocracy, I'll just do it rather than tell you how you should do it... This page... https://op...
