Re: Drive unit costs
That's also true of the open source solutions and the groups we run for course participants are busy supporting one another when the forum does not deliver solutions.

Re: Drive unit costs
What are these suppliers doing except for cleaning it up and fitting the control board? Why such a high cost? Important to remember that suppliers also take on the added cost of failed drive units. Many of the Tesla faulty bearing DU's have been recirculating which is an issue for anyone offering a...

I don't see any glib comments. at that build quality who is even going to notice you cut the floor out :) How do you think a Judge would interpret the comment from Johannes who is legally "Open Inverter"? Folk expressing interest in the OP's build and thanking him for sharing seems reason...

Re: CCS EVSE and Car side
EDIT: is there any problem in using the docs you bought to create an open source product? If they are legitimate IEC documents then they will be licensed to named users only as detailed at the bottom of every page (see attachment). I would recommend contacting the IEC and reviewing the license befo...

Re: BMW E61 2006 LDU-sport Model 3 battery
Once done properly vehicle modifications be they for ev conversion or otherwise are perfectly legitimate. That's the point we are all trying to make and some of the glib comments here are undermining that IMO. It's important to remember that many people joined Open Inverter because of the failure o...

at that build quality who is even going to notice you cut the floor out :) Hats off. This is a public forum and it's naive to think that everyone has our best interests at heart. Several people (including you?) have posted about disgruntled customers and it's a small step for them to start making t...

Re: Chademo Controller Development
Took a while since the small connectors were out of stock everywhere but I have a few now and will contact the people who signed up for a 500A IVT and send the correct connector kits to the 1000A orders that were already shipped. If you have any orders for the UK it might be worth holding off shipp...

Re: CAN dump 40kWh Nissan Leaf Gen 3
What do you think, has ever someone tried this? Nissan have spent millions man hours developing a BMS for the battery chemistry used in their vehicles. Given we cannot replicate this effort and the results of getting it wrong are often catastrophic, we recommend using the BMS as intended by the OEM...

Re: Tesla SDU Knocking\Clunking Noise
I'm only running it in short intervals at mid-speed rpm. Should be ok. Thanks. Just to be clear we've seen SDU inverter failures with very light testing because the heatsink has so little thermal mass. iirc Damien, Zero EV, and EV Romania also became aware of this issue during the early days of SDU...

Re: Connecting a GS450H to an existing Transfer Case?
There is a short adapter section that is required between the back end of the GS450H gearbox and the LS600H transfer case. Haven't been able to source one yet, but not a straight swap. Is it worth buying another front end and then selling what you don't need? Lots eastern European breakers split th...

Re: Shipping to Great Britain possible again!
I'm willing to take the risk, probably "hotter cooked than eaten" as we say around here. Probably not a good idea to suggest you're not following VAT rules on a public forum... "go straight to jail" as we say around here ;) Maybe now is the time to consider a UK reseller for OI ...

Re: Shipping to Great Britain possibel again!
Personally I seriously doubt the UK can succesfully impose such rules over companies shipping to UK. It must be a misunderstanding, no country in the world works like that. You either are in EU and use EUs system, or are outside EU and handle your import VAT like any other independent country. &quo...

Re: Shipping to Great Britain not possible
I talked to my tax attorney, he said GB will be handled like any other non-EU country. So no VAT from my side and customs is the importers business. I'll just keep shipping. That's incorrect. You must charge UK Supply VAT when you sell the product. I think your tax attorney is confused with UK impo...

This is great news :D Given it's closed source can we expect some support for this going forward? I'm sure most people would happily pay more for a product with support or for an option to purchase support as required. Edit: one other request... can you find a way of locking the wifi board in place?...

Re: BMW E61 2006 LDU-sport Model 3 battery
Which country allows a modification like this? Around here this would be considered basically making a new car and you'd have to either get special permission (you won't unless you're the military or something) or go through all the hoops that car manufacturers do with crash testing and all. Simila...

Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the UK
Have you called any conversion shops in the UK and ask them what they needed to do to get conversions on the road? Historically it was a paper based system where the converter declared everything met the requirements and was safe. In reality the system was very widely abused and it's no surprise th...
