Re: Which friction disk to match Leaf splines
For those in a market that doesn't have a lot of Fiat's driving around, early 90s Geo Tracker discs have the 7/8" 20 spline center. Which has the same fit to all these Fiat ones. Here's an interchange table. Screenshot 2020-09-20 061530.jpg edit: this disc doesn't fit fantastic https://youtu.be...

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
Found a 3d scan of a Leaf motor online. Need to figure out how to scale it to real life dimensions and the definition isn't great, but it's cool to see! IMG_20200919_201052.jpg Also found a pdf of a VW I4 engine with the trans mounting pattern. IMG_20200919_211919.jpg I'll likely only model and CNC ...

obligatory Leaf PDM disassembly pic:
Now, on to modelling up an adapter. Does anyone have a drawing or model of the Gen 2 Leaf motor mounting holes?
As well, I have a Geo Tracker clutch friction disc in the mail for the motor output that i will be cannibalizing.

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
I know a guy that did just that. But he took 288 LG high capacity cells and connected them in original Leaf box. He wired the BMS and sealed the box. It was made at the time of the 24kWh Leaf and it is suppose to still work. He doesnt like to talk about it though. I dont know why... So there is at ...

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
here is the length of a basic watercooled VW inline 4 on a stand in my garage: IMG_20200917_185631.jpg here is the Leaf PDM: IMG_20200917_185645.jpg The leaf motor is much shorter. This is the part that has to fit between the rails so it's mostly what matters. The Power Electronics atop the motor ar...

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Right now in the US we have a Batteryhookup.com option for entire 21kWh BMW i3 packs for $2500 (+$350 shipping). Not as screaming of a deal, but pretty good.

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
light update: Asked my wrecker for another Leaf "engine assembly" since they're SO cheap. Just to have around for a possible future project. Also ordered my VCM Kit from EV BMW :) Something I've been pondering lately: Could i build my own pack with the same number of cells as the Leaf, but...

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
Awesome. Full Gen2 leaf stack? Hope it fits! keeping leaf gear box as well? These trucks are more like cars (much like my brat) but this is fwd. The transvers layout looks tight with the original vw gearbox yeah, the truck is really just a uni-body rabbit with a bed instead of a backseat and hatch....

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
cant complain for battery space with that flatbed could potencially use the long model 3 modules, best of luck ! my intent is to put whatever batteries i use beneath the bed, so that the truck appears to not be an EV. there's actually a lot of space under there. my target pack size is roughly 25kWh

Re: Project VW Cadd-ev
Welcome! Awesome project, mini trucks I think are a great conversion platform. small and light, tons of battery space, and suspension to support. there a yellow patina caddy in the bushes down the road from me... I’m eyeing it for a next conversion. Interested to see how you go about yours! what is...

Project VW Cadd-E, Leaf/Volt/Mercedes + Mk1 VW
Hi! My name is Andrew and I thought i'd make a short introduction since i've been lurking for a bit now. I went to Western Washington University's Vehicle Research Institute, where I helped create this carbon-monocoque 100mpg+ car. 34022_443727440235_3118051_n.jpg I was mostly responsible for transp...

Re: Gen 2 DC-DC Converter & Charger?
Alltough celeron55 has: "totally lobotomized the brain board in a completely undocumented way." Do you see a future where an openinverter piggyback mod PCB or other solution would be possible to have the unit working with charger,DC-DC and chademo..? Let's cross our fingers. I would assum...

Re: Gen 2 DC-DC Converter & Charger?
This would be a nice solution , would save some money too, shame they are so bulking, sure most people with a gen2 have the charger/dcdc sitting on their garage floor :? I there a way to only use the inverter from the Gen 2 leaf? that may be an option. I would hate to carry around a charger that's ...

Re: Gen 2 DC-DC Converter & Charger?
That guy is doing it the easy way with the Leaf BMS being connected into the system with the original battery pack with the original cell count and voltage. I didn't have that luxury. He will surely publish his findings and CANbus logs, right? Yeah, I wasn't planing on using the Leaf Battery system...

Re: Gen 2 DC-DC Converter & Charger?
Did you get a gen2 Leaf power train? That would be too slick to not use, you know with the inverter mounted directly on the motor. Apparently, but please someone back me up, the DC/DC converter works as is. The charger needs some hacking. The biggest challenge is to actually fit the "power tow...

Gen 2 DC-DC Converter & Charger?
Newb inbound! I've been planning an EV upgrade for my 1980 rabbit pickup for a long time and planned to use a Gen 3 Prius inverter + Leaf Motor. Due to space constraints i really like the idea of having a combined charger/DCDC/inverter combo (I believe possible with Damien's prius board). Problem is...

Re: Useful Youtube Channels
This guy has an edge : Aww, I was hoping he was going to hide the motor inside the block. Sure is a long-effort way of basically creating a bearing. He still had to make mounting points, fabricate pulleys and couplers, weld... didn't save a lot of time. I see this being an "okay" way of e...
