Re: Tuning the small drive unit with charts
Thanks Charlie. I also note you are setting throtramprpm to the max 20000, I have played with that setting to see what happens, using 4000 at the moment so might be worth graphing to see the effect. If I understand Johannes on this the ramping therefore (in my case) is only upto 4000 rpm then no ram...

Hi Charlie. Just looked at the battery spec, pack current peak is 450A, 150A per string.

Hi Charlie. May I suggest using an older version of the software to compare against your results. Could be an interesting comparison.

Re: Tuning the small drive unit with charts
Hi Charlie. You could reduce throttle ramp to get off the line quicker.
You will also notice a small 'boost' when your batteries are fully charged too, I charge to 330v.

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Are you using brake plus pot2 setting or throttle back off regen ? I am using brake plus pot2 but have realised I must be wasting regen energy. As regen in my case is relative to motor speed as I am slowing down I need to add more brake. Increasing pot2 can adjust this but with higher motor rpm the ...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Congrats on passing the MOT. Dont forget to give your friendly neighborhood petrol station a wave as you pass by :-) If you remember I also had a bad cell and no matter if I swapped the BMS module or tested the cell connections neither solved it so hope you dont have the same issue. My weird cell re...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
As the Smart driveshafts use a hollow tube I turned only about 0.5mm off the Tesla shafts to make them a slide in fit ( glad I did too as the aftermarket Tesla shafts were not true to the cv joints !!). I drilled holes in the Smart tube 180 degrees apart near the end of the slide in and near the end...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
With respect to battery voltage we are using the same modules and pack voltage, however you have 15 modules where I am using 10 so you will have less voltage sag, therefore better performance I would say. Whats you tyre size? Based on SDU diff ratio of 9.34 that gives 107.07 wheel revs per minute at...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
I just had a playtime with Fweak, dropped it down to 100 (from my original 250) and tested in steps of +25. Very interesting to say the least, low down torque goes up dramatically but watch out for overcurrent shut down, and potential broken driveshafts ! Just to see what happens I tried Fweak at 10...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Fweak 250 Udcnom 0 Boost gets you off the line quicker, I have tested at 6500 in the past, equivalent to warp factor 9 Scottie :-) It sets the voltage at which the motor starts off at. I suggest you use the graphing functions, I was wondering if its voltage sag or due to throttle calibration at the ...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Hi Charlie. Did some tests, cant repeat your issue though sorry to say. iacmax is the current limiter, that does what it says but does not shut down the drive just limits current. Your setting of 800 is not causing me any problems at full throttle from start. Your settings for acceleration in my opi...

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Hi Charlie. Suggest you keep Boost as it is until you get your bespoke driveshafts, raising that will get you more torque on starting so may bust those welds :-( Fweak is ok, that will give good low down torque at that setting. Throtramp is as it says, 20 is fine for a gentle start. I am sure its do...

Re: Tesla SDU - Front and Rear Driveshaft Compatibility?
Fluid does spray gears but also it is pumped through the heat exchanger and then to rear motor bearing and returns via motor to diff casing from what I have seen when I stripped mine down. If this gives you a clue..... I use an external electric pump which draws fluid via a filter from the SDU drain...

Re: Tesla SDU - Front and Rear Driveshaft Compatibility?
You could fit a pipe to the filler port on the SDU and route that to a convenient place so filling is easier ? That would also allow you to put fluid in to a point above the filler port if SDU orientation is not as per Tesla.

Re: VX220 with Tesla SDU
Considering when buying a secondhand OEM Tesla driveshaft (£200 - £250), then chopping and home brew welding etc against the price around £250 from Berrisford looks excellent and gives peace of mind.

Re: Tesla SDU - Front and Rear Driveshaft Compatibility?
Hi elShankos. I run an SDU in the same manner as you are contemplating. I removed the shaft (A) and used FRONT driveshafts as the cv joint bodies are smaller than the rear from what I have learned (and spent !!) The rear type (LDU ??) cv joint fouls the casing at (A) when I tried them but please che...
