Re: BMW CAN Messaging
How would you like...working factory traction control? For a low price of $ at my website...it can be yours! (Only half kidding). I do have a product aimed at the E46 chassis, so here we go... One of the pieces of information that is both well documented and hilariously inaccurate at the same time i...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?
I'm starting to think you are wanting to run the hybrid drivetrain intact but with the ICE disabled? At some combination of torque from MG1 and MG2 the ICE is going to start turning. And the torque required for this is going to roughly equivalent to the torque produced by a 3.5l V6 starter motor. T...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?
No idea. I'd assume it's going to be similar, but not 100% the same as, the locked input shaft situation. The engine is not an 'immovable force', but it's not exactly a weakling starting from RPM=0.

Understood -if actively commanding MG1 to do so. I'm asking in the situation of when you're not trying to regen brake or start the engine.

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?
I don't understand your question. How much torque in respect to what? MG2 requires as much torque as it takes to get your car moving. MG1 is not producing any torque and, if the bearings are any good, using nearly zero torque to reactively spin. ICE is not running and not requiring torque. Are you ...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?
As a hybrid, to an observer standing outside the transaxle, MG1 never spins in reverse. If MG2 spins clockwise then MG1 always spins clockwise. MG1 never spins anti clockwise. If you look at the way that the MG1, MG2 and ICE are mechanically connected together through the gearing, if the ICE was st...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?
When you say freewheels backwards, in a stock (with ICE) situation, does that mean it's running the ICE backwards? Apologies if this is something elementary that I'm missing. -Matt As a hybrid, to an observer standing outside the transaxle, MG1 never spins in reverse. If MG2 spins clockwise then MG...

Re: Gen 1 Volt + Simp BMS - Winning Combo?
Thanks. Ok, good to get a reality check from others. Definitely go the Volt/Simp route out of those options. I saw in one of your videos you have two of the BMSes from two packs - what did you end up doing to parallel the packs? Do you have that documented anywhere? Now to go get a pack - https://ww...

Gen 1 Volt + Simp BMS - Winning Combo?
Apologies for the sort-of double-posting but people were more interested in my vehicle choice rather than components in the other thread. From what it seems to me, for a 16 kWh pack (approx), you've got: Gen 1 Volt modules + Simp BMS A123 Pouch modules (https://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/used-a123-pou...

Re: 2 BMW E46 Projects
Also there is a Tesla DCDC converter that CAN be had for around $300. Nice find, that's not bad! It's not clear to me what this conversion will actually achieve. For less effort and money and with more reliability, you could get a complete GS450h and just tune it: How many things do we do in life t...

2004 BMW M3 Hybrid (Was: 2 BMW E46 Projects)
I must say I've been really inspired by things on this forum, and have some ideas for upcoming (6 - 12 months from now-ish) conversions. I have 2 vehicles - a 2004 BMW 330i sedan, with the SMG / SSG gearbox in it. The naming is funny because it depends on where in the world you are. :) It was market...

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Apologies if this is not the right thread to put this in. I didn't think this warranted its own thread. It is unfortunately unclear to me - does https://www.ebay.com/itm/123766966717 have the connectors required to connect to the inverter? To my eye it does. But I'm not sure, and I don't want to spe...

Nice! Definitely great progress.
I heard you say "that's interesting" but couldn't make out what you were referring to. Everything working as expected so far?

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Thanks for the part number, xp677. The thread here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/build-threads/934445-gs450h-inverter-exchange.html seems to seem like someone either got a bad inverter, or there's gonna be some LHD / RHD issues. :( Or I wonder if it's irrelevant due to the different control unit...

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Hello everyone. This is definitely exciting stuff. I am trying to find part numbers for the inverter that Damien is using. It looks like it's either G9200-30061 or G9200-30040? Are those both suitable candidates for use with the controller? I just noticed in the picture above is G9200-30030. It look...
