Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
Guys, a great way to avoid this is by using the wiki: https://openinverter.org/wiki I have added two empty pages for the Prius Gen2 and Gen3 board. If you could fill it with life that would teach many people how to fish. I intended to wait until I had more confidence with which to write things, but...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
TL;DR - Nothing of value. Just project logging my particular failures. Update of Shame: - I soldered the three transistors in the top right backwards (correct to the silkscreening), because I missed a note about the silkscreen being wrong. - I attempt to desolder the transistors to flip them around....

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
Spoon feeding you will not aid your learning about electronics. I didn't want to come out and say it earlier, but, I suspected as much... Being deliberately obtuse, obstructionary, and withholding knowledge so that those less knowledgeable than you have to "earn it" is smarmy elitism, see...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
The answer to this question is on the front page of this thread, have you read the entire thread? Multiple times. But, no, I don't re-read every post before every post I make. It's also odd that you found the answer, but then didn't opt to just post the answer itself. To save anyone else the time, ...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
There are two intelligent power modules in the Prius inverter unit. One is a half bridge for the boost converter and the other is a pair of three phase bridges for MG1 and MG2. The 28 pin connector is on the three phase IPM. You're not going to be using the boost converter at this stage, there's no...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
By the end of today I'll have my parts and be ready to start wiring up all the terminal block connections on Damien's board, but I have no idea what goes where, to which pin. And if I need any other external components, supplies, etc to Damien's board. Here are all the mystery connections I need to ...

Re: The SuperYacht BMW E65 7 Series
Stateside most junkyards (at least that I've talked to) won't touch a hybrid/ev. Pick N Pull, a national chain with probably 80 yards ( https://www.picknpull.com/locations.aspx ), won't touch them either. They don't have policies or procedures for touching EVs. However, the way they buy vehicles is...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
Made a post in my own build thread, stuck because Digikey send 11x capacitors instead of 20x that the bag says should be in it (I need 13). My question is that I wasn't sure on the polarity of the bigger TO-220 transistors. So I went poking through Damien's videos to get a screenshot, and found that...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
Started soldering. Kinda screwed up. Headers got a bit jammed, tried to take them out, ended up lifting a pad. https://i.imgur.com/ehDkrHy.png (bottom left, but also, top left) I scraped the trace next to it, dobbed some solder on, and hoped that the pad that lifted with the header would somewhat re...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
. Parts have arrived!! Soldering party tonight! Won't be at the shop, (electronics is at home, shop is not), so won't get to see a motor spin but.. .. well I guess I could swing by the shop and carry the small motor and the inverter home, it's small enough. Hmm. Maybe. No, I doubt it. There's too ma...

Re: The SuperYacht BMW E65 7 Series
I feel a little bit like I chose the wrong horse in going with the Prius.
This Lexus inverter/drivetrain is seeming like the better option, other than local availability.

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
There are a bunch of different components in the Gen2 (and onward). There's also a 3phase inverter for the 3ph air conditioning motor too. But apparently that's on the motor itself and just power leads head over to the A/C motor. Prius Controller Disassembly -- Timestamp to the end of the Gen1 disas...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
No worries of corroded contacts or UV degraded brittle plastic. I get what you mean, but... This connector is inside a sealed box, never exposed to sunlight or moisture. Everything else in the case looks like it's brand new. I have more confidence in Toyota fabrication than my own crimping and asse...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
Just went to check, it's the same plug as on the Nissan Leaf LBC. Part number housing: 1318747-1, Pins: 1123343-1 Digikey even has those in stock. $5. What's do the "pins" numbers mean? [Edited to answer: The plastic plug is one part, but it does not come with any metal connectors. You ha...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
Tidbits of progress: - Arber333 helped me clarify what type of Schottky diode I need. Also, on Damien's Prius Gen2 DC board, he has a similar reverse-polarity protection diode that's rated 40V and 5A. I couldn't find anything at Digikey at either 4a or 5a, so I went with a 3a, which Arber said shoul...

Re: Charger for 500V+ battery system?
Second, less important question; if I add kWh's to my battery system by increasing the Voltage as opposed to increasing Ah's will this actually give me more range or just higher performance? There is no free lunch. The way that you shuffle the battery does not add or remove the amount of battery. Y...

TL;DR - Open source philosophy, blah blah. Unrelated. This is a very interesting thread as it shows many of the implications us developers make. That's the essence of open source. Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
Quick question, more applicable to everyone than on my personal build thread... Does anyone know what the connector(s?) inside the Gen2 inverter is(are)? I'm presuming I'm going to have to hook that up to Damien's board. Other than chopping off the plug and splicing wire-to-wire, it'd be nice to be ...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
1) Digikey.ca have current stock of19,496 TO92 BC547 transistors, Part # BC547B-APMSCT-ND. Why do you say they are obsolete? No more obsolete than the STM32F103C8T6 used on a Blue Pill. Err, my mistake. The BOM lists that the BF959 is obsolete, and this is the replacement for it. The one you linked...

Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build
More dumb beginner questions. Current roadblocks: 1 - Can't figure out what parts to buy to populate the Prius board. I just lack the context of the circuit to know what to order from some of the items in the BOM, as listed above. Also, what connectors I would need to interface with the controller. ...

All purchased about the same time, one from overseas and the other two a day's drive away. Y'know, you try to support loc...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller
AwesomeMat, the bloke that removed the cables had to open the V2 to get the HV transaxle cables out of it, and they also forgot to put the 6 bolts back. Yeah, I figured that out shortly after. The case screws were only finger tight too. But, other than lying about that, seems to be undamaged. I won...
