Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

I measured the contactor both in and out. When in the HVJB it measured 1.5 ohm. When I energised on the bench on its own, 0.3 ohm. Similar on another multimeter. Hard to explain the difference between measurements inside and outside the HVJB. One possibility is that you had something else connected...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

Just checked all three. Neg and precharge energised sit at 0 ohms. Positive... 1.5 ohms :? Not energised, Postive also exhibits variable value changes. Smoking gun? If the positive contactor has welded closed then you will get very odd behaviour. Can you confirm you are measuring these without anyt...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

Contactors? It's not unusual for failed contactors to 'click' but have contacts that are burnt out or welded closed. Have you checked the contactors measure ~0 ohms when they are energised and ∞ when de-energised? What relay are you using for precharge? Are the contacts DC rated? Has it welded clos...

Sure... when editing a post select the "Attachments" tab at the bottom of the edit window, then "Add files", browse to file location then "open file", and finally "Place inline".

Can you post your photos direct to the forum not via a third part site? We're trying to avoid information loss in the future if/when the third party host shuts down.

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

As I've seen on photos here, there is a shottky diode on the power supply lane, with grey line facing other way. Is it placed correctly on my board? Note that both D1 and D2 in this photo have the grey line positioned away from the '+' symbol on the PCB. I've no idea if this is correct but they are...

This is where i come to the point of maybe being able to help, if not then no harm asking. We had planned to use LEXI for a conversion course but that has now been cancelled. We do have another project bubbling away that could start in a few weeks and it may be possible to collaborate on that 8-) D...

So, I think the answer to your question is buy an SDU from a 2018 car because it's unlikely to have the motor bearing issue, should include any facelift upgrades, and will be pre Raven SDU incompatibility 8-)

Re: Which front Tesla SDU

I'll try to find out if this really happened when I get a moment. elektrek said in April 2019 regarding the 'Raven' upgrades - "As anticipated, Tesla is bringing its new permanent magnet synchronous reluctance motor, first developed for Model 3, to Model S and Model X" (see here ). I've n...

I can't find an answer as to WHAT changed and WHEN after 2017, just that stuff began changing.
That was the Model S/X 'facelift' (minor changes) and we're looking for something in 2019/20 after the Model 3 launch... I'll try to find out if this really happened when I get a moment.

Re: Which front Tesla SDU

Thanks again. No problem. One other thing to consider is the possibility that the latest 'high efficiency' Model S/X may use the Model 3 motor (or the same technology) and be incompatible with the SDU logic board. I'm out of touch with the current Tesla cars and don't know if this was just an inter...

Re: Which front Tesla SDU

My dilemma though is which Tesla SDU to buy.... X, S, PxxD ??? Try and buy one from a late car (some early cars had problems with the motor bearings) and from a vendor with a return warranty (some water damaged DU's around). It's also worth considering whether the front or rear is a better fit in y...

It would be interesting to see what the inverter thinks the bus voltage is... maybe your drive has lowered the voltage below the precharge threshold :?

Re: Reverse Speeds Leaf drivetrain

The plan is to possibly run the motor and transmission reverse of how it was intended to have the correct clearance and not have to modify the control arms or sub-frame. Am i crazy or would this work? We know from Damien's E46 Touring that the Leaf motor will run in both directions at high speed :D...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

I've had a quick look at the V1.5 software on Damien's github and believe the precharge contactor will stay on when the positive contactor is on so my comments regarding the VCU implementation are incorrect. I still believe the negative contactor should use the switched 12V not the OP1 VCU driver. t...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

the exception of the negative contactor. the - side is sharing the OP1 VCU driver pin. Ok, I think thats the problem... when precharge has finished you're turning off the negative contactor and cutting power to the inverter... at least that's how I would expect the software is intended to work***; ...
