Indeed it is quite unlikely that a missed precharge could have caused that kind of damage. Especially the 'loud bang' part suggests that there was some kind of short inside the HV system (inverter etc) or a reversed polarity.

I would say if you plan on using fast charging and if you can do it then do it. It won't do no harm but could prolong the life of the battery. I was also thinking about air cooling but wasn't sure how to do it, need some kind of air filters for the dust etc?

The biggest issue might be absence of a DC rating. DC fuses aren't same as AC fuses. AC crosses 0 and that extinguishes the arc. DC needs other means for that. Thanks for pointing that out.
