Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU. [FINISHED]

Really really sad to read about what happened. I myself use cells in aluminium containers wrapped in plastic where whole body of the cell is live. It is not immediately obvious but when they are wired in series and if any of the cell bodies would rub through the insulation and get to touch that woul...

Re: Help! I blew a 400A fuse and a contactor but not sure why? [SOLVED]

Indeed it is quite unlikely that a missed precharge could have caused that kind of damage. Especially the 'loud bang' part suggests that there was some kind of short inside the HV system (inverter etc) or a reversed polarity.

Re: Help! I blew a 400A fuse and a contactor but not sure why? [SOLVED]

Hi, is your VCU SAM3X based? I use the SAM3X based controller for the Tesla gen3 charger and every time the USB cable is disconnected it stops all the charging and restarts after a few moments. So connecting/disconnecting USB might indeed freeze the controller. The precharge sequence should be wired...

Re: Nissan leaf battery active cooling

I would say if you plan on using fast charging and if you can do it then do it. It won't do no harm but could prolong the life of the battery. I was also thinking about air cooling but wasn't sure how to do it, need some kind of air filters for the dust etc?

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Z3

Hi, Andy, what would your thoughts be on another option - to use a modified Leaf gearbox (like Clipper cab has done in the photo attached) to drive the rear diff? Would that be a viable option and would it allow to slide the Leaf stack further in into the gearbox tunnel to win some space in the engi...

My big unknown is the PDM, can the Damian box send Can messages to control the PDM? ie will it generate Can code to switch the HV relays and also does it have the smarts to control 250v and Chademo charging? Hi Pete, yes the Zombieverter will control the PDM. In the Zombie control interface you wou...

Re: Simp BMS

Hi, another question. Are the TX and RX signals for the Nextion display the same as the TX and RX in the usb socket? My intention is to use usb TX and RX for the serial monitor and also for the Nextion display. Would that work if I provide 5v and ground for the display? Thanks

Re: Simp BMS

Probally not written the code propper to stop actually change that state, it will just balance and then timeout or get stuck balancing. Yet the logic for balancing is behind this and always looks at the input parameters and lowest cell voltages to determine what to balance. Thanks. So if I'm not co...

Re: Simp BMS

Hi, on Teensy 3.2 based SimpBMS with Tesla code when IN1 (pin17) is driven high the SimpBMS enters into Drive mode as shown on the serial monitor. But for some reason it also still says balancing active on the serial monitor. I'm in EV mode, ESS mode is set to 0. Why that might be? It should stop ba...

What level is the pack at and is it above the balancing threshold, also which mode are you in? For "EV mode" balancing happens in the "Ready" and "Charge" state, for "ESS mode" it always balances Yes I have reduced the balancing voltage setpoint just to try a...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

Often the Voltage DC rating is less. The Arc needs tobe extinguished. My observation is distance (bigger length fuse). If it's used and you have exact type nr then it should have a rating. But then my question is what's the different in use ase (why have doubts then)? I got worried by not understan...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

The biggest issue might be absence of a DC rating. DC fuses aren't same as AC fuses. AC crosses 0 and that extinguishes the arc. DC needs other means for that. Thanks for pointing that out. So that protistor is an AC fuse after all? It was used in one of the OEMs battery pack. So is there a chance ...

Not feeling easy about that protistor being sufficiently rated so I pulled it out. If I used 2 of those in parallel would I double the rating or is that a bad idea?

Re: Simp BMS

Hi, I have hooked up SimpBMS with Tesla BMS boards to a 108s battery. Got all voltages reported. Just tried to do some balancing and I'm a bit puzzled as the BMS took down all cells by ~5mv overnight but delta remains the same at ~21mv. I have set balancing voltage hysteresis to 4mv just to get all ...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

So basically it gives an idea what the above nominal accepted performance is. A "slow" fuse has a big bucket, a "fast" fuse a small one. Often the bucket is drawn in a graph where current and time are plotted. So how small is the bucket of this 125A fuse according to the datashe...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

Which is a long-winded way of saying that perhaps the 125A device you have is suitable for short duration 140A excursions. IDK, but I know I wouldn't be able to generalize, based on just an "125A" rating. It's more complicated than that. I've certainly had too much wine tonight to go look...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

So my motor is only rated for ~50 kw peak and 30 kw continuous power from what I could find but I have measured up to ~140A for a few moments under hard acceleration. Does this mean this protistor rated at 125A is too weak and would certainly blow under hard acceleration? I have put it inline the ma...

Anybody knows what Amps are the contactors/fuse rated for in an S Box? Some sources seem to suggest 120A which is rather low. In that case what would be the amp range that the internal current sensor could measure?
