You could likely get the same effect from changing resistor values on the board. Depends on it's design.
My project which ended up being forked to the VCU has ended up with around 70 inputs/outputs, about 20 analogue in and 50 digital in/out, so I can understand the fustration!

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
1. PB1-3 inputs aren't doing anything in the code. They appear to be just informational (maybe Toyota uses the info to control SL,SP for gear shifting). I never programmed these, this is a fun project for someone else, who can them tell me what programming to use so I don't have to do it. 2. They u...

Re: GS450H Solenoids SL1 SL2
I think we previously found that both solenoids off is high gear, and both on is low gear.
Since there are no other valid states for the 2-speed transmission, there was no need to do any further investigation.

Re: GS450H Solenoids SL1 SL2
The brakes actuated by SL1 and SL2 are shown on the attached diagram. Thank you, this appears to be the correct answer, but I'm afraid to say my knowledge of gearboxes is insufficient to understand it. Would you be able to explain like I'm 5 what will actually happen in each of the 4 cases: * Both ...

SP is for line pressure control and is modulated.

Re: GS450H MG1 and MG2 Torque Ratio and oddity in inverter protocol [SOLVED]
The algorithm people are using to control the GS450H inverter sets mg1 torque to 125% of mg2 torque. Where did this ratio come from? Similarly, MG1 is often not used in reverse. Is there a discussion of the reasoning behind these decisions? Also, does someone know why the control code takes the sum...

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
You don't need to connect or worry about anything else (throttle, PRNDL, etc) to get basic communication. Just those 3 pairs of wires.
Change the mth_mask array to all 1's to be able to read back the entire MTH stream.

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Looks like I have a dead inverter - I thought I saw somewhere on here that a guy bought a couple, repaired a part in the middle that would go bad, and then have a good unit again. I can't seem to find that post or what part that is. I'm getting no communication from the VCU and the inverter This co...

Re: GS450H Discussion
I do think it's interesting that in the screenshot it says "MTH Valid: Yes". This was just from checksum output. It didn't account for zero checksums. I later edited this line to ensure the checksum is greater than zero, otherwise an empty packet would show as valid. Serial.print("\t...

Standard car radiator. I think I used one from a 1L Corsa because it was cheap and small. Re: GS450H Discussion
I used 4 runs of one-pair shielded cable. IIRC Toyota did the same. You could use Cat8 cable as the pairs are individually shielded and it will have a drain wire and outer braid which you can connect to one of the relevant DRN pins on the inverter. Cat7 cable has no drain wire or braid so is not sui...

Can anyone point me to instructions or a user who has replaced the inverter connector with the Molex set per Damian's Wiki? https://openinverter.org/wiki/Lexus_GS450h_Inverter#Wiring_Harness_Connectors As much as I'm tempted to rig up some generic pins and epoxy, I'm wondering how daunting re-pinni...

Re: GS450H Discussion
Running MG2 only until we request a certain torque value makes a lot of sense, since we run these motors via a torque request, there shouldn't be an issue with bringing the second motor online. I'm not sure how the inverter will handle this, however. If we request 0 torque from MG1, will it oppose t...

A delve into the wiring diagrams should tell you what kind of communication it is, and it can be decoded from there in a live car.

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Please correct me if I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but my reading of this leads me to understand that there are two separate clutches, one for each ratio, and only one should be engaged at a time. If this is the case, is it not plausible that one solenoid deactivates the high ratio gear, and ...

Good to see more gear shifting code - The current outstanding issue seems to be very rough shifts, even when limiting or zero torque applied at the time of shifting. Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Oil pump temp and internal oil temp have vastly different sensors to MG1 and MG2 and will need different biasing resistors to suit. The measurement is not trivial, the resistance is not a linear curve. It will follow a Steinhart-Hart function, the coefficients of which must be found through experime...

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
The 1K8 resistors were placeholders, and were not meant to make it to the final boards. Please specify a suitable alternate for the 4 temperature sensors. Then from there we can figure out the code.
Yes we should modify the boards for these resistors.

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
I only documented the things I was interested in. The whole point of the htm masking in the serial diag for the VCU was that I was midway through finding things when I sent the code over to Damien. The mask was there to show me what was still left to decode without unnecessary clutter. Have fun. I w...
