Re: BoostedBoiz: Tesla Swapping My Minivan!
I'd chip in a couple bucks to a GoFundMe specifically for the purposes of trolling southerners with that sacrilege. Or a My Little Pony Harley or y'know, anything else. Don't let your dreams be dreams. Well the 2nd gen Chargers command many bucks for basically a vin tag and half a firewall, so it'l...

Re: BoostedBoiz: Tesla Swapping My Minivan!
LoL, luv it, but I can see it now, the angry purist Hell Cat Mopar Mob coming after you The additional irony is that my daily is a 2017 Challenger. Just the V6 though, no hellkitty for me. I'm trying to save up for the EV Charger Daytona, if Dodge ever gets around to actually releasing the producti...

You know what has nearly identical wheelbase and width as a Model S?
A 1968 Charger.

Re: Calling all United States Members - Potential Meet Up?
Is there such a thing as EV bracket racing? That is a good question, with a complicated answer. To be brief and not hijack my own thread: The National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) created classes, rules, and recording keeping 25 years ago. Their safety rules were adopted by NHRA/IHRA/Lo...

Re: Has all ldu same mechanical parts ?
Based on the various units that have been disassembled/rebuilt, it appears that the LDU in 2012-2017ish Model S/X was the same mechanically, with only the inverter IGBTs and capacitors changing between the Base and Sport units. Being that it's Tesla, and they change stuff all the time, it's entirely...

Re: Tesla Model S P85 "man in the middle" Power upgrade
It might be possible. I think this is a really unexplored area of EV performance, and there could be some really cool opportunities. I've also been thinking about how to make an otherwise "stock" Tesla utilize the extra performance available if the IGBTs and capacitors were upgraded. I kno...

Re: Recommendations on generic automotive connectors - waterproof/5 pin/easily rewired
I really like Deutsch connectors, but only if you use the full barrel type pins, which require their own crimper (around $20 on Amazon). I bought a kit with connectors with different number of pins, and have restocked as necessary. If you crimp them properly they are very strong and fairly easy to a...

Re: Custom half-shaft sleeve with diameter mismatch?
If these are temporary, the gap could be ok if welded heavily, but I would recommend them being very temporary or having a friend you can call when the welds break a couple miles from home (just speaking from experience). Unless you are a very, very skilled welder, you should also expect some vibrat...

Question for those in the southeast:
If there was an EV specific drag racing event (likely 1 day only) somewhere in the Carolinas, would you attend? Would you bring a car to compete?

Re: [DRIVING] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
The slow grind to get the car back on the road continues. This weekend I found enough time to finish massaging the new front and rear drive unit mounts so that everything fits. The drive unit will still need to come back out so I can modify the driver's side motor mount, which right now is held in b...

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying the explanations don't make sense and haven't convinced me. It's not your job to convince me, but if you've got a different way of explaining it maybe that'd click for me. I appreciate that. Apologies that my explanations have not been great, thermodynamics...

slipstart Parameter Clarification
I've been looking through some of the parameters I haven't really messed with, and could use some clarification on slipstart. The current definition on the wiki states "% positive throttle travel at which slip is increased" which seems fairly simple, but I'm wondering what its actually doi...

Re: 2nd LDU blown in a month - EDIT: False alarm. [SOLVED]
It's difficult to trouble shoot the parameters because your udcnom is so much lower than most of the tested LDU parameter sets out there, and everything gets scaled based on that. Nothing is jumping out to me as wrong. Your boost value is a bit high and fweaksrt is a bit low, but that should be doin...

Re: Radiator Core Size...cooling capacity?
Wait, by "increasing radiator diameter" are you talking about putting in a larger radiator? I interpreted that to mean the sizes of the tubing and such getting necked down. I'm talking about a radiator with a larger tube size. The radiator itself may be the same physical outside dimensions.

Re: Radiator Core Size...cooling capacity?
I'm following you but... ... So? Coolant is still in the radiator, heat is still being radiated. No more or no less than otherwise. I can understand perhaps if you simply restrict coolant flow by whatever method, (fold a hose nearly in half so barely any gets through) you won't circulate coolant fa...

I just want to take this space to once again thank Johannes for this forum and its high quality, fair rules, and generally useful layout. Re: Radiator Core Size...cooling capacity?
I've heard this a bunch from normal car guys, and the logic has never made sense to me. Coolant can't flow "too quickly to cool" through the radiator. The radiator is removing a certain amount of heat per second. It does that regardless of how fast you're pumping the coolant through it. I...

Re: Radiator Core Size...cooling capacity?
On my LDU powered car, I have had many, many issues with cooling the drive unit on the street. Here's what I've learned: radiator tube size matters. Your radiator inlets should be the same size or bigger than the hose supplying them, or the coolant will pass through too quickly to properly cool. DO ...

Re: How to not kill a tesla drive unit
the deadtime. It sits at its default of 63 or ~1us for the LDU which could indicate it was never tuned to fit. But I guess that would have shown earlier, or would it? I'd defer to your expertise on whether that would matter, but I don't believe anyone has tried tuning that parameter. All of the exa...

Re: How to not kill a tesla drive unit
I want to ask at this spot, how many people have killed their drive unit after it had been working fine for a while? Most of all mid-drive would be interesting. One German customer has lost drive after it worked fine for 40.000 km and apparently he's not the only one. I've beaten the shit out of mi...
