Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
Looks like that did the trick! I need to read up on the next step, but I assume its going to involve either powering it up with the USB adapter aga or plugging it into my control board, powering it up and the logging into it with my phone. Thanks again! https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/e313/Th...

Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
I'm using a USB to Serial adapter, and supplying 3.3v with the STM programmer USB stick. If it's the wrong tool, $10 isn't much to get the right one. There aren't many options with the 3.3v power supply.

Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
Chip is jumpered to UART. Continuity meter indicates the jumpers are good and not shorting over to an un-intended pad. Admittedly I found jumpering the small pads challenging. I have the chip powered up by a 3.3v USB source and the RX/TX wires swapped. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/e313/The...

Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
Hmm, nice! I've been struggling with a python error of some kind. Been trying to trouble shoot it myself for the last two or so weeks, but have not gotten anywhere. Maybe tonight I'll post up the error. It acts like it cannot find the COM, but its set right and the green data communication light on ...

Re: Novice 6x6 ATV conversion
I might have misunderstood so to be clear. Set jumper to "Flash" (GPIO0 to 1) when programming and then jumper to "UART" (GPIO0 to 0) when trying to connect via WiFi. This seems backwards from the directions I've read. I have a the jumpers set to UART mode, connecting with a FTD...

Re: Novice 6x6 ATV conversion
Yup, got is swapped over yesterday, and confirmed with a ohm meter that the right pads are bridged, but still struggling with flashing the firmware. The green light blinks rapidly when I click the upload or sketch buttons in Adruino IDE, then gives me some python line command errors. I suspect my la...

Re: Novice 6x6 ATV conversion
Got stalled a bit as my work load piled up from COVID delays and dealing with some department of motor vehicle issues with two of my old cars, but hoping to get this back on track. Mechanically I still need to fabricate the shaft end bearing support and caliper brackets. Then sort out the throttle c...

Gen 3 Prius Contactor board.
I finally had about 30 minutes to sit down in the garage and decided to poke at the Gen 3 Prius contactor board. The two main contactors drew a steady 0.45 amps each at 12 volts, and the precharge relay quite a bit less. Would these contactors need economizers? A general search indicates anything un...

Re: Motor temperature sensor
Interesting! I would say knowing the temp of the MGR is useful given it's air cooled nature and number of people attempting to use it as primary propulsion. I was looking at how the Megasquirt community handled Toyota temp sensors and it looked to me that Toyota was reasonably consistent with their ...

Re: LDU mechanical failure
That’s my guess is the clearances got to a point of bind. Sort of like running a bent connecting rod until the piston cocks in the bore and the wrist pin gets ripped out. Not that I’ve done that or anything. It is certainly possible the pin went first. The end result is the same. haha. That's impre...

Re: J1772 Charging
It all comes down to does the AVC2 do what you need. As the AVC just has a relay that works on the proximity and will always try to turn on the EVSE. I'm bumping up against my knowledge limitations. A conventional gearhead trying to be an early adopter without knowing all the small details of EV co...
