Re: Good custom made driveshafts service.

Sure are. The finest of 1967 Ford Thunderbird technology! Has a very wore out drivetrain. Figured I could sink $12k into another grumbly V8 and transmission or try the electric route.

Re: Good custom made driveshafts service.

Good info! I knew the rear of the GS450h didn't slide, so that's the two piece is the splined slip tube I mentioned. I hadn't given any thought about the rear bearing design possibly not liking the slip tube load.

This tank definitely has a solid back axle.

Re: Good custom made driveshafts service.

I've got a local driveline shop I plan on utilizing. Basically hand them a transmission flange and say 1310 rear yoke u-joint X inches (that's right!) long with a splined slip tube in it. May put a carrier bearing step in there if the transmission is not slid far enough back.

Re: Gen 3 inverter converter control software

I'm about to put a control board into a Yaris inverter with the intent of using it for a battery charger. It looks like most of you are running it through 3-phase power, but can you confirm it will work on 240v single phase to charge a 144v battery pack? Thanks!

Re: 1979 MG Midget with GS450h and custom battery pack

Inspirational!

I feel like these projects are simpler to take on for IT/electrically mined folks than us mechanically minded folks, but seeing two concurrent projects going forward with the GS450H is very motivational to figure it out!

Re: GS450H Discussion

Be mindful, with out powering MG1 it "may" be turning backwards as MG2 is spun up, along with turning the mechanical oil pump backwards. Running the electric pump would keep the system supplied in oil. I never experienced the system slipping white driving once underway, so I believe I had...

I'll look into it. I've seen a small handful of these things retrofitted into old cars. Hotrod has a semi-recent article on it. I haven't looked at it in detail. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/150-electric-power-steering-junkyard-prius-delivers/?sm_id=organic_fb_social_HRN_190315_sf209452588&...

Re: GS450H Discussion

I've got my 450h MG Midget running. Post here: https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=39419#p39419 Of note in this thread: I am running w/o the input spline locked. Once underway, I don't need the pump since the internal mechanical pump is allowed to turn. At 1500 max torque setting in the ...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]

Because its variable ratio, if MG1 isn't powered though it maxes out at 2.2 times, but if it its powered it can run at a different speed than MG2/output shaft. Maxes out at 2.2 times, with parasitic drag, etc it may not actually achieve that. At 5:40 showing MG1 spinning much faster, in reverse, tha...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]

Damien was driving MG1 and MG2, so MG1 would not have been sympathetically spinning at 2.2 times the rpm as MG2, it would have been contributing to forward motion similar to the planetaries being welded. For the record, I'm not 100% sure that MG1 would in fact run at full counter clockwise rpm, I ne...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]

Of course you don't need or want 10,000 rpm, but with the input shaft locked and the planetary gear ratio, MG1 is going to spin faster than MG2, and according to sfk it'll spin 2.2 times faster than MG2, as sfk mathed out in high gear, you'll have the equivalent running of 2600rpm in third gear of t...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]

I still need to watch your video! Is your input shaft locked? I've watched Damien's and didn't connect the dots between his rpm and the post. The motor assemblies are likely fine for 10,000-15,000rpm with Toyota engineering factors applied, but until one runs a bearing out or shatters a rotor, its a...

Re: 1971 GMCe Lexus GS450H BMW 530e Tesla Model S powered Electruck [FINISHED]

I haven't watched the video's yet or maybe I missed it in the post, but how are you handling the power direction going to the rear output shaft instead of the unloaded front input? I've read about making a locking plate for the input shaft which potentially limits top rpm. I've read about welding th...

Re: Lexus GS450H motors - How many KW have been achieved on running projects?

Way cool! The T-bird scaled at 4,850lbs so is chunky. The V8 and I suspect iron cased transmission weigh a fair bit, as does 20 gallons of gas. But TONS of room for batteries, especially if the motor is nearly confined to the transmission tunnel. 0-60 in the mid 6 second range is the slowest I'd be ...

Re: Lexus GS450H motors - How many KW have been achieved on running projects?

Definitely an option I've been keeping an eye on for my '67 T-bird. Given the vehicle weight I'd like to put upwards 400HP in it, but realize it likely will cruise really nice with 200HP and some steep'ish rear gearing.
