Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Great to see you back at it! Yeah, insurance here in Ireland is still a bit unclear for ev conversions. Mine was relatively straightforward as it was over 25 years old and qualified for classic insurance for €250 - no more than 5k miles a year, not for work use, etc. I did call a few places to insur...

Re: The Audi 8e - Powered by Leaf
Well, bit off the radar with this one! In reality, I was balls out building the Audi, all the time in the world from May to September '20 when I finally ran out of money but managed to get a job but finished (almost) the build. Still no excuse for not updating here so here's a round-up of what I hav...

Re: Any batteries for sale in Ireland?
Looking for a battery pack, BMS, charger, etc. for a BMW E30 conversion, anything considered. Since you're in Dublin, I would pay Kilcock dismantlers a visit as they are one of the closest approved EV and hybrid dismantlers about. Always have stock coming through. That's where I got all my drivetra...

Decided not to edit it in the end. The 'clip' you can hear my wife talking about is a wheel chock I forgot to move! The other scraping is just rusty brake discs and some slightly bent tinware. Superb! Nice one Tom! Taking away the rusty brakes, it's so smooth. Great feeling getting that first drive...
Re: BMW e30e
I am leaning towards a full leaf system similar to Cookie6000 due to it's simplicity for my first build, but don't know if the car will be too heavy for it. From a simplicity aspect, the Leaf setup I have used is 'relatively' straightforward compared to the Lexus/Prius powertrain option. That said,...

Re: Nissan Leaf BMS
Concerning the 3rd temp sensor I think I've found the place where it forks off to the processor via a series resistor (R59). So I will remove that and bridge it over to the 4th channel behind R62. Now I hope the 4th channel is just copied onto the 3rd. Hey johu. Just using your work on the Leaf BMS...

So good news is we can now command positive and negative torque and regen the motor in both directions. Does this still work with evbmw can boards? There is comments about only negative torque in the code and i read somewhere that gen1 would only go in reverse. E: just watched grey goose going both...

Looking good Christian. Do we frequent in the same HVJB shop? Looks very tidy ;) I remember I had all sorts of problems with flaky contactor control. Absolutely killed me for days trying to figure out what the issue was, why the sequence was out sometimes and work the next. I'm sure I waffled ...

Re: Hardware threshold switch for brake vacuum pump
Righty-ho After a bit of a hiatus, I got stuck back in and decided to reverse out of the Bosch sensor cul-de-sac I was trying to traverse and ordered a VAG 036906051G sensor. I tried with Johu's help to get the Bosch sensor working but to no avail. I will get it working, just will sideline it for th...

Re: Hi all
Welcome! Yep, stick to the tried and tested. At the time I kicked things off, Damien was working on the E46 Goose and fitting the Gen 1 Leaf stack and at the early stages of testing the VCU so take a look around the projects and see what fits the bill. Work out first what kind of drive train are you...

Good jesus that was an effort! Fair play to you for not resorting to pointing the blow torch at the car and walking away :D You deserve a beer or 5 after winning that battle. Ah in fact I have one more left over in case your mosfet is toast and you want to try the relay route. Ah hell. I give up johu (pre emptive facepalm emoji). Where am I putting this relay in? I'm lockdown #3 brain fried. Tries a couple of different set ups and can't get it to work. 16120144894133499...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board
Hey. If it's one of the original VCU's then it is really really simple. Ignore all the wiring above and concentrate on the harness coming out of the inverter. Can H and L, perm 12v, switched 12v and gnd. Think i added some of my schematics in here somewhere too. All is explained in Damien's video fr...

Re: Hardware threshold switch for brake vacuum pump
Connect 12v+ to the battery, away she goes. Ref voltage climbs, gets to 4.3v and no further, motor keep running. I am guessing I am at the point now I need to change either R1 (currently 4k7) or R2 (currently 22k) to get the trigger point to about 3v, no? 20201219_153813.jpg Did you get it to shut ...

Incredible work. Well done fredd, especially endeavouring to make use of the long-form M3 battery layout. No mean feat. Just to add to the comments above, same goes for mine on the rules on what rules to follow in Ireland. I had the automotive engineer look at my build on the 'return leg' of the Aud...

Wow, just saw your FB thread. You have built up some amount of hardware to work with! If I had the space I would probably have a few hybrid/ev shells lying around too to harvest bits from lol. Loving the Legacy conversion. ALways tempted to buy one but could never get passed the thirstiness of the e...

Re: Hardware threshold switch for brake vacuum pump
Excellent Thanks for clarifying that. Think I'm almost there. Switched ground Red to ground of pump. Brown to 12v+ on battery. Yellow to 12v- of battery. Sensor voltage now 0.9v after vacuum purge. Connect 12v+ to the battery, away she goes. Ref voltage climbs, gets to 4.3v and no further, motor kee...

Re: Hardware threshold switch for brake vacuum pump
Cool OK, i'm on the right track. I rigged it all up as you described, changing the ground, stepped through the test before I connected up the sensor and after and here's how I got on. No activity from the pump at all. Powered pump itself outside the circuit, all good. Wired up, no go. We do however ...
