Re: The Audi 8e - Powered by Leaf
I feel your pain :( I have a partly damaged "black" Leaf BMS (i.e. where one of the cell voltage input jacks is black) that you could use for parts. It works fine on its logic side but I think 2 balance chips and a few passives need swapping to make it good again. Thanks for the offer Joh...

Re: The Audi 8e - Powered by Leaf
SO, while I wait for the motor tax office to make up their mind about reclassification to an ev (at this point, it is an exercise in me proving in the form of confirmation from Audi main dealers that of course they will not sign off and certify Japanese and Wexford parts in one of their marques... )...

Re: Electric Brake Boosters
Thanks for the thoughts on the iBoost brake hardware arber. I was looking at one of these as a solution to replace my hydraulic brake accumulator in the audi but thought better of it as i was unsure as to the redundancy from a safety point if view. I plan to stick with the well trodden path, since t...

Gotcha. Yes, I am using V1.5 with contactor control. I'll give that a go using IN2 but may end up keeping an eye on how you get on with the E46 and VCU software update.

Great advice Damien. Much appreciated.
I'll get it all in the post today and report back. I hope we can set things straight for the future with at least two counties.

Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the Rep of Ireland
Here is the 'document' they are leaning on. She kept appologising about the state of it... its a mish mash of the results of the court ruling and detail from the Revenue. And yes, it has only to do with changing of engine size, it just seems they cant get their head around the ev conversion side. Ca...

Re: The Audi 8e - Powered by Leaf
Nothing should be connected to the hv battery before contactors. Period. No oem does that. Yep. Agree with you and I remember we discussed this on the course and its how I wired my set up. I am in the dark however as to how you enable dcdc to provide 12v power to the charge circuit when the contact...

Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the Rep of Ireland
Ok. That's where we are running into the problem. Wicklow are not accepting the stamped eng report. They will only accept a signed and stamped report off a main dealer, Audi in my case. I can't see that happening. Wicklow motor tax rang me yesterday and they advised the reason for the main dealer si...

Ok. Thanks. What section of Revenue do you send it to then if not the motor tax office so to avoid this main dealer nonsense.Jack Bauer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:00 am The form you want is RF111 :

Section 5 Change of Engine.
You'll need your engineer to complete and stamp this section.

Thanks johannes. You're probably right
Yeah, I resorted to an external power supply after to get me over the line. I'll look into something simple like that in the boot later on.

Ok, update time. The one job I kept putting off... well two. Drop the rear pack and get it seated with no movement, bond EVA foam to point of contact locations between pack and chassis rails to help, paint the battery straps and seal the interface between pack and spare wheel well. Easy!! Ha! When i...

Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the Rep of Ireland
Hi all Was going to mirror the conversation Boxster EV started for the UK except for the process and steps taken in the Republic of Ireland, what I have dealt with so far and to fine-tune the detail in the Legalities wiki. Here is the detail from the Wiki: Inspection by Automotive Engineer who revie...

Good man alibro. Getting there. You can change the name of the VCU web interface front page by adding /admin to the end of the IP address. It then brings you to the admin page to make the relevant changes

Re: Weird Speedometer Question
If there was a PWM output on the VCU you could do it, but I don't think there are any suitable outputs are there? Yes you could use an Arduino with CAN to convert it and drive the fuel gauge at the same time, maybe mount it behind the instrument panel? No outputs that would do the job. USB and CAN ...

Hey, yes. Very similar to mine. When I connected it to the gearbox, the resistance of the box brought it back down. It's just that there is no regen settings in there yet so it doesn't act like a e-pedal but I hear James is looking into that

Re: Weird Speedometer Question
Thought I would tag onto this thread as it has a common theme but one that I am struggling to solve. The Audi B4 is pre CAN so analogue signals rule. The Speedo is just fine, being fed from a sender on the side of the gearbox next to the flange shafts. The tacho however is fed from the ECU as an AC ...

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
Personally I've never measured the temp on a gen2 or a gen3 charger and I have ran them up at full 11kw on 3 phase. I would not be at all worried about a 3kw power supply running at 60c. Even 80c. If we take your values of 58c on the board and 28c on the heatsink this is only a 30c rise. How are th...

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
Hi all Spent the day today tweaking and testing the Gen 2 charger with V4 board in the Audi to charge the 24kW Leaf pack via the Type 1 Zappi EVSE I installed the other week. I have it kind of manually set up via a switch in the boot. When I flick the 12v, the charger and aux coolant pump power on a...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board
You can see from the 2nd photo it is only rated for 320v. Ideally, you would want to be >400v DC to make sure it is reliable. Also, there is no economiser on that by the looks of things so again, not best suited. I have bought from these guys twice now on ebay. The EV200HAANA is common among convers...

Ok, thanks lads. Seem.to have a consensus here. I'll rejig my setup and give it another go. Makes total sence to have stable 12v as you are going through the motions in the start up sequence. Cheers.

Re: The Audi 8e - Powered by Leaf
Is that a legal demand or just a "good" procedure? Because i certainly didnt wire it that way. I have 20A HV fuse (original) and DCDC is wired directly before contactor. Also i trigger DCDC enable pin before i perform precharge. This allows me to have a steady 12V supply for all the fans ...
