Re: Charging from Gen2 Prius?

It works, but the order of operation is critical. All the important information is in the topic linked by LRBen above.

Am I really this thick?

As some might know, I am working on designing a Leaf module charge protection board. I have "re-engineered" this thing using EasyEDA, LCSC & submitted to JLCPBB like 5 times. EVERY time I submit a design for SMT assembly, JLCPCB finds a new "defect" that makes the production ...

Re: Halved current during field weakening

When I look at those graphs the question comes to mind: What would happen if there was no field weakening at all? I think it might be useful to disable it completely and collect a graph for comparison. I don't even know what to expect, and for me that would already be enough reason to have it. Of c...

Also swapped the 10mm² cable for CHAdeMO charging for a 16 mm² one. The 10mm² one held up well but now it will have to carry full power for a longer time. Yes I know some will think this is ridiculously small but I couldn't see an issue with the small wire gauge over the last year and many quick ch...

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

Did some measurements and I don't think the poor performance during field weakening from the MGR is due to the motor itself but rather an inverter or tuning issue, .... Thanks for all the work! We know from Toyota marketing materials and that the MGR is not intended to be a prime-mover, so I am not...

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

Matt, 50kw is about 67HP, an increase of more than 50% from what the majority of VW aircooled engines had from the factory and more than double for a few. How much power one wants is all about expectations. If you want a vehicle that is performance oriented, even if it is light, 100kw is about the b...

Some great updates to share :D 1) The "Lee Hart" battery balance/protection circuit will work! 2) Using a TL431 shunt regulator, a 1k and 1.6k resistor and some type of load is all I technically need to protect each cell. 3) A 65A-Hr battery module will take, oh 60-odd hours to charge @1A ...

Re: Motor power calculations

Well you can't get infinite speed. ...... most important is the brushes. They are set up ('advanced') in order to overcome the coil inductance as they move from coil to coil. However, as speed increases, that advance is effectively 'used up' so that at some speed the brushes are effectively too lat...

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread

I believe that is correct. You can connect the negative side of the contactors through those pins. Precharge will activate on start up I believe until the HVbus is at the desired voltage, then the main relay will activate and the precharge relay will drop back out. Correct. Make SURE the control ci...

Speaking of rewiring, star to delta would yield 1.7 times less voltage requirement, 4s4p to 2s8p 2x less and both combined... well. Guessing that would also mean ~2x the current capacity (trading volts for amps)??? I'd be ok do go down that path if performance w/o the booster is miserable *and* it ...

.... The only way to mitigate the problem is to completely turn off regen when coming off throttle. The way I have it set up in my VCU is 4 regen levels, where level 1 completely disables off-throttle regen but brings in regen proportional to brake pedal pressure. So now I can quickly release throt...

Not that anything I say should be taken as wise, authoritative and certainly NOT gospel...

I am using the VCU to handle the DC side HV controls and the charger to handle the AC side relay(s). Not having all the components, this plan has not yet been physically validated.

Does anyone know to tell if the parking pawl is engaged, and if so how to disengage it? There is and it is the same between Prius Gen1 and Gen2, the parking "gear" is part of the "counter driven gear", so yea if that is locked, no rotation of MG2 or the axles can occur. See 1:30...

Your Encoder is set to "AB", should be "Resolver" -and- idle mode is set to "Always", turn that off and see if that helps.

I’d set your max cell ceiling to 4.18 when you really need the full range. 3.8v majority of the time. I did some more digging, this time for photos and found the attached. Seems like lower than 3.5 and I'm off a cliff and marginal benefit much over 4.1v. This would put the center point at 3.77v (3....
