Re: 1970 Beetle, Leaf Conversion

To me it would seem like a full Leaf battery pack is quite a lot of weight for a beetle. My plan was 30 of the 48 Leaf modules in the Squareback, that would be weight neutral. Adding 10 more is like having a full tank of gas and some junk in the boot. Much of the pack weight on the leaf is the cont...

Re: Prius Gen2 Adapter Board for CHARGING

It would appear to be something shy of 5kw (220vdc x 30A = 6600w, DC-DC rating is 100A @ 13.6v = 1360w) and both share the 30A HV fuse :O

5kw aligns well with 8hp for the "typical automotive AC compressor" at full load, really efficient ones are around 6hp.

Especially for those applications where the Leaf stack is too tall, or all you get is the motor :)

Re: Prius Gen2 Adapter Board for CHARGING

Just had another idea these days: If we want to do low power BOOST charging we should be able to use the auxiliary A/C compressor inverter to rectify 1-phase AC for us :) It feeds into the low voltage side of the buck/boost converter, so with the batteries connected to the DC bus on the high voltag...

Should I ever decide on the GSx50H route, I think I will just buy the whole vehicle, tear out what I need and hand the rest over to a scrapper.

Re: GS450H Discussion

Diesel, gasoline and ATF are all very similar in terms of pumping, I have used "fuel" pumps to pump all three fluid types with great success.

If we are not "shifting" between high and low, not much pressure should be needed for forced lube, although certainly designed to have it.

Re: GS450H Discussion

What is the reason that the external electric pump is needed when the internal mechanical pump works driven by MG2? The mechanical oil pump is driven by the input shaft, so if that is locked (as required to get motive tq from MG1), there would be no fluid available to the transmission for lubricati...

Re: Extracting 150kw from a Leaf 24kwh Gen2 Battery - Possible?

Ok so now I'm really confused Again apologies for my lack of electrical knowledge. I guess my question is, if I hook up the 24kwh leaf battery pack to the gs450h motor (with Damiens VCU board in between). What is the limiting factor for the power output? Not exactly sure what is being asked. Full p...

Re: Extracting 150kw from a Leaf 24kwh Gen2 Battery - Possible?

I'm converting a GS450h to EV, and aiming to make hit 150kw power, with roughly 60 miles range. I'm possibly buying a 24kwh Gen2 Leaf battery. That should be doable with the 24kWh pack :D From what I can see, it is rated to 228A current, so ~90kw @ 400v. - So from this info the answer to my questio...

Re: Prius Gen2 Adapter Board for CHARGING

Yes in buck mode chargecur (well, rather unintuitively) refers to the INPUT current as that's where the current sensors are located. That is actually good for my application to avoid overloading the weak US circuits! I never considered installing an element on the battery side to test charging, I w...

I was referring to paralleling the Inverter outputs to increase power, but yea you need discrete control for the transaxle ;)

Re: Prius Gen2 adapter board development thread

1- to run MG and MG2, I'll need a 2nd adapter board - no big brainer there. What happens to the second boards precharge and main contactor signals? Do I prepare for wiring them in parallel to adapter board 1? I do not know why one could not use a single board to run both in parallel. I know you can...
