Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]
I have been running firmware version 5.14.R for nearly a year. This version had a couple issues in my application. I would get an occasional current spike (causing an overcurrent event) when gently coming off throttle to regen (OC never happened when the motor was under full load). To make the car u...

Re: Inverter Firmware 5.20.R
No testing yet as it is -2deg C outside and i took Mazda battery in house to power my solar. At least it is warm. Wow. That's what you call a hybrid battery! :D I will try 5.20.R tomorrow. If anyone else has experience with this sine version I'd love to hear your feedback. Edit: now updated and wri...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
This will be a quick write-up and update, but Howard kindly sent me a PTFE lined rubber seal (over steel frame). It's made by a company called Peach Motor Parts in the US. I understand its application is for Snowmobiles but it almost has the required dimensions of the Tesla OE seal, albeit with a la...

I'd love to join too. Might need a bigger battery or tow truck to get to Somerset.
Had a two hour wait for a CCS charger at Cobham services last Sunday (in family car), so it seems fast charging is no longer thus.

Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]
Well if the car is first in it's kind / class then the engine mcy might reveal allot of canbus signals. So I'm not too sure about not needing it. It's needed for reverse engineering purposes and not for functional purposes. I can only speak about this car (a Dec 2000 986). Post conversion, all func...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
Thanks for posting this information, Howard. The community must find a solution otherwise there will be a lot of LDU off the road in the near future. I cant find a local link to the snowmobile PTFE lined water seal in the UK. Do you have further information on European suppliers? It only takes me an...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
Data point and update: after 3500 miles my SKF seal is leaking and progressively getting worse (I have a drain plug so it's dumping coolant overboard). I can see the expansion tank level dropping every few hundred miles and am having to keep it topped up. I'm not going to have time to remove and exa...

Re: LDU parameters showing reverse when in forward
Trying to make sense of what's happening here. When motor going forward it shows reverse on parameters page on laptop. When in reverse it shows forward. Even trying to use the button swapped setting on perimeters page it shows the same thing. Should I just ignore it or is there a reason or a fix? I...

Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]
Answering questions from PM received. Hello, Read your post/journey on converting your Boxster and really appreciate the info you posted. I have a few questions as I'm considering doing something similar: 1. Did you integrate/connect to the vehicle's canbus initially when you were first driving the ...

hello can someone possibly share the gbrl file to print a single open source ldu pcb board. Although, the thread has since grown arms and le...

My setup at the moment https://photos.app.goo.gl/bLk8ut9ZBYKDt7DX8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/2szAt6ZSzLzh7wWa9 Lets hope I don't destroy the inner ceramic bearings and/or have the bearing stay behind. That’s basically it. It’ll just require a shock / jolt to release the spline. The outer wood block...

I don’t want to pollute this thread but can I ask whether the issues discussed also affect the sine version and specifically 5.14? Getting occasional overcurrent event during very moderate driving when on/off throttle. Seems to be no correlation to rpm. Only occurs during gentle driving. No OC when ...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit Support Thread
You can replace the output seals with the drive unit in situ but you do need to undo the drive shafts and pop the stubs. There’s a BMW / Febi Bilstein part number for the seals. Edit: details here (you can find the part locally in Canada) https://www.ebay.de/itm/133413837269 Edit edit: presuming you...
