These modules are used in Volvo PHEV's, I don't know what exact modules are used in what models. Also the 'London Cab' PHEV's have 3 strings of these style modules.

They exist also in 10s, (others also maybe) but I don't know if the BMS is the same.

They were always quite expensive because the cells are bolted so you can reconfigure them. That being said: they can indeed be quite bad SOH, but they are air-cooled by the car (and maybe heated also?), coolant from car goes through a radiator inside the battery and a fan blows the air around. Carel Hassink, he sells all kinds of modules. he was actually using BMW CMU's there.

I don't really see where such a bulky low Ah pack would come in handy...

How many modules is the BMS recognizing? All four? Only recognizing two modules (four wired up) . All four leds are flashing. That's good to know, I found only 12V value from SimpBMS manual.

so you only have to use the SimpBMS 10 pin connector for the slaves

update: when using multiple slaves, 5v doesn't do the trick, I need 12v then. for single module testing 5v seems to work (simpBMS only powered by USB)

Hi all, I'm a bit late to the party... but I've taken apart quite some of the gen1 and gen2 e-golf batteries.. there is no need to cut the pack open! I only cut the tabs where bolts are, to get access to the glue. with a 'long box cutter' style knife you can cut the glue and then pry the cover open ...

it would be great if these contactor control boards can be used on other projects!

about multiple VW packs: I've experienced heavily unbalanced modules when using a CANbus brigde to offset addresses. Not sure what happened but might have to do with the modules seeing those messages and doing strange things...
