Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
I've done it again and made a thing and forgot to take photos until it was nearly done! I have been working on a way to brace the transmission's torque reaction to the torque arm. The only mounting points being at the bellhousing end and the torque arm being at the other end. I have no idea if this ...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
I finished making the transmission cross-member today. Of course I forgot to take photos of the process due to running back and forth from the welding workshop to the car checking the fit. Still, I made the second bracket, and got it all lined up and welded and then sprayed with more grey primer. 20...

Re: Guy Martin. Worlds fastest road legal EV
We were wondering why they didn't try setting light to petrol cars and fuel tanks in warm weather as a comparison to the battery fires.

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
I did a bit of cardboard template making today, to decide how to make the mounting brackets for the transmission. I have a couple of lengths of 50 x 6mm flat bar that has been waiting to be added to my trailer for so long that I doubt it will ever happen. I might as well just use it for this job. No...

Re: Motor mount ideas ?
I like the plan B idea partly because it saves building a sub frame. But those bolt through bushes have very little give and it can be more difficult to line up the bolt holes when installing the motor, hopefully something that doesn't need to happen too often. If you go with plan A with the bolt on...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Due to a rotten night's sleep I needed to do something physically challenging, and mentally stimulating, to keep me awake. And as it wasn't raining this afternoon it was a chance to work on the car again. I decided to make the transmission mounting and with a lot of careful checking I found that the...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Thank you, I think if insurance is going to be prohibitive then at least I have learnt how to do this. I could then repeat the process in a different vehicle another time, maybe a classic that makes the insurance less of an issue. So given a few days of work or rain, and rain and work, there was a b...

Thank you both.
Time is still a PITA at the moment, and also wondering if I can get it running before the insurance costs more then an early used Leaf!

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
After a ten month pause, I have finally started to tackle the conversion again and decided to attempt a trial fit of the transaxle. The pause has been partly poor mental health, winter weather, parents using my working space to store their mobility scooters, and needing to earn money with a few more...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Just a very quick update, photos to follow later.
I finally got my act together, two mobility scooters and a powerchair not withstanding, and attempted to loosely install the motor transmission. It didn't fit!

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Hi everyone, Sorry I have been rather quiet recently, the project hasn't stalled, don't worry about that. I have just been inundated with some technically fiddly work, the weather has been very wet and unpleasant to be outside working on the car, and I have been (still am) working my way through a n...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Until recently I knew nothing about CAN and still don't know much but I managed to read the CAN data from my car and made a couple of videos showing how I did it. This was the first of 2 or 3 and if you click on my username it will take you to my channel. Like I said I'm only a beginner and this is...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Looks like it all made it:) Hope the random stuff is some use. Seemed a shame to dump. You will need to torque down the bolts in the transaxle case before use. The vcu and loom should be plug and go. There is also a powerwatcher kit in there : https://powerwatcher.net/ and a bmw contactor box. Bril...

Ahh, thank you for that.
I can't wait to start playing with it all and seeing how it fits in the car.
But gotta clear the workshop first, client jobs to do.

Pallet unpacking time! :D 20201002_091557.jpg This is what Damien kindly sent to me, the Prius transaxle, Controller, driveshafts, and other useful stuff, and including a #SurpriseMakersParcel. 20201002_092653.jpg 20201002_092701.jpg Not sure what the thing between the vacuum pump and the power stee...

If only the service was as good as the accounts dept in these places.... Haha! :D It arrived this morning, on the one day this week I told then I couldn't be here to receive it. Fortunately the driver phoned just as I was on my way out and I was able to postpone a meeting just long enough to have t...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Still no sign of the pallet delivery. National Pallets say it is in Litchfield Hub and they have no idea why it wasn't put on the first lorry that it was supposed to be booked onto for yesterday, nor why it also didn't go on the second lorry sent to pick up any excess load over night, nor the third ...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Today was the day that the pallet from Damien was supposed to arrive! Having waited in all day, with a pallet truck at the ready there was nothing. The tracking said it arrived at the depot at 07:38 this morning and would be delivered by today. It wasn't logged as out for delivery though. That never...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Today I did a bit of metal work to patch the hole left by the gearshift mechanism. As I am one of those people who hoard everything that might become useful later on I was able to source the steel from an old washing machine I dismantled many years ago. I measured and made up the patch, folded the s...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
I also removed the gear stick mechanism while I was about it. An easy job, the heat shields came out, held only by little discs of rust. Then inside, with the gear stick boot unclipped and the ashtray removed, there was access to two 13mm AF nuts at the top. Underneath the car again remove two 13mm ...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Not been working on the car for a few days, work and installing low voltage solar pv to use some panels donated to me a few years ago. I can now charge 12V batteries with the morning sun! Anyway, I decided to remove the exhaust pipe today. It is mostly removed, the rear section won't come out. The o...

Re: Skoda Octavia Estate 2001
Today I decided to split the engine and transmission. It make them smaller lumps to stash on the drive, and I would sell them separately anyway. Also there is the option to use the transmission with a motor for a conversion. Anyway, I remembered I have a crane scale! 20200915_140720.jpg 20200915_140...
