GS450H Gen3 vs Gen4 Transmission for EV use
Hello Everyone. I have spent time searching for answers for this on the forum but I’m not getting anywhere. :( Please may I ask the community for help and advice about the differences between: A) The Generation3 (2006-2011) GS450H transmission (L110) B) The Generation4 (2012- 2018) GS450H transmissi...

Re: GS450h Inverter Currents
Everyone is obsessed with this. I get at least one email a day asking me how much power or current or how does the e65 work if its not getting 650v or blah blah. I'll repeat what I know from actual data : 2.5 tons of 7 series bmw going like a rocket up through 90mph , 5000rpm on mg2 , crappy batter...

Re: Energy Stored in Inverter Capacitors [SOLVED]
That is a heroic answer 💪🏻 The first question I asked the BTCC on social media when testing a hybrid touring car for the 2020 season was “where are the lithium fire extinguishers” everyone treated me like I was stupid! I also wondered about damage to the battery. Especially since in a race car they ...

Re: Energy Stored in Inverter Capacitors [SOLVED]
Actually I was thinking about LMP1 race cars and F1 where they pull upto a pit box and the first action that is taken before anyone touches the car is to make sure is Electrically safe to do so. I just wondered how this is achieved in a General sense. It’s an extreme example yes granted. But as time...

Re: GS450h Inverter Currents
Yeah this would be good to know , though I'm not sure it will be clear until we've blown a unit up :D If you are passing over torque commands to the normal gs450 inverter it should limit any motor currents to within the limits of the inverter. So even large changes in torque should not push the inv...

Re: Energy Stored in Inverter Capacitors [SOLVED]
How do mechanics work on a hybrid or ev race car then, that pulls into the pits? Unless they're actively working on the electrical system, why would they do anything? If you're working on a fuel system you know to depressurise it first, but you're not going to do that whilst you're swapping drivers...

Re: Energy Stored in Inverter Capacitors [SOLVED]
How do mechanics work on a hybrid or ev race car then, that pulls into the pits? They certainly don’t wait a period of time to jump onto a car..
Do they plug in some device into the dc bus to instantly discharge the caps?

GS450h Inverter Currents
Hello all. I’m not sure if this post is best as a stand alone question or in another thread so moderators please feel free to (re)move it if it’s in the wrong place :? The Wiki page for the GS450h inverter.. describes the Current limits for the inverters for MG1 and MG2 as Unknown’s “x” and “y” Has ...

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Just out of interest has anyone gauged the power density? How many Amps can these Gen3 or Gen4 packs provide pulsed? 34Amp hours Capacity. So safe C rate? The main fuse seems to be 200amps so that’s around 6c. I read earlier in the thread that Damien was interested for Lexus/Toyota inverter applicat...

Energy Stored in Inverter Capacitors [SOLVED]
Hello All, This may be an obvious question to the Electrically Initiated.. But I’m a humble petrolhead trying to understand the basics  But I’ve looked through the forum and can’t see an answer to my question so please can someone offer some wisdom? My question is: Inverters and EV sub systems...
