new project, Ford model T 1911

ready to start my EV conversion, I have the main components, motor, controller, charger and have selected the four batteries ready to order later, the original box at the rear will carry the batteries, the Agni motor will be coupled to the existing gear box, under the bonnet will be housed the contr...

Hi Peter, I have bought one of these thanks to your suggestion, have you actually used one of these in a conversion, if so how were the results thanks

Curtis controller/ ignis dc motor

does anyone have experience of a CURTIS PMC 1204M-5305 DC Motor Controller controlling an Ignis 8.5kw 48 volt DC brushed motor, I have been told that there are incompatibility problems and just wondered what effect this has on the overall performance, thanks

Re: I need a speed controller for my Agni motor

I've used salvaged welding reactors in the past, but a Prius boost inductor would probably be a good choice these days. thanks, but I have no idea what these are or how they are integrated with the speed controller, can you explain, or better still, for simplicity, will this controller work to a fa...

Re: I need a speed controller for my Agni motor

The Agni motor is very low inductance. You get better efficiency with a higher switching frequency, which is why the designer Cedric Lynch liked the Brusa controllers. I've added external inductors to help Curtis controllers out. The other thing to consider is that the no-load and full load rpm are...

Re: speed control

in fact, my main concern of this method is that there will be a major difference in battery duty/ discharge and wonder if these various states of discharge can still be manged by one 48 volt charger

speed control

Hi, I am still trying to find suitable means of speed control for my Ford model T, I have the motor now, it is an Agni 8.5 kw DC brushed 48 volt motor, I have looked at various PWM's but each time I find something suitable and affordable, there is some sort of problem relating to it which stops me b...

Re: I need a speed controller for my Agni motor

Brushes last pretty well and are available from third party sources. The motors aren't technically difficult to service, you just need to build a special rig to pull the motor apart. The only thing holding the casing together is the magnets. thanks for that reassurance and so it is back to trying t...

Re: I need a speed controller for my Agni motor

AGNI are part of Saietta these days. Whilst they have a stock of motors and controllers, they're not making them any more and have not been able to offer servicing, or supply things like replacement brushes for some time. The motor controller is a pain. I'm informed they spent £700,000 of grant mon...

Re: I need a speed controller for my Agni motor

Hi, I have heard you mention this Prius inverter before, and yes these are readily available in the UK for around £50, sounds ideal, but I am not able to use one of these simply because I would not know how to reconfigure it for my needs, is there anyone on here who you know, would be able to help ...

Re: chain or belt

I used a chain on my quadbike conversion, I think I would have prefered a belt but I had limited space. The chain is more durable in terms of stones and dirt getting thrown up into it as well. Whats your project? Not sure I would use a belt or chain on anything bigger than a quad bike. my project i...

Re: chain or belt

I tried using Gates Polychain Carbon belts but I found them just too noisy. I considered making a silent chain replacement or perhaps a gearbox (transmission chain couldn't manage the speeds I needed). But I have since come by a cheap Leaf motor and transmission, so I'm going to try that instead. t...

very robust, heavy , 15kw DC motor for sale

This is a very heavy motor, looks like it would last a life time, has been refurbished professionally, and in dry store since, would maybe suit a large cruiser, barge, hydro power etc, see it on Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133439127382, I bought it by mistake, not realizing the weight of this mo...

Re: Ford Model T 1911 conversion

Depending on your budget you can reach out to people like https://www.voltsport.co.uk/ if you want a 'plug and play' motor inverter setup for various low voltages. Something like this would do i believe: https://www.voltsport.co.uk/kits/kits-drivekits/ME1114-Drive%20Kit-10kW-48V Depending on what y...

Next up: the complete Twizy drive train. Zero EV will have one left over soon. Rated 15kW at 48V - or was it 72V?
that sounds interesting, would only need motor though, please keep me informed, thanks

Re: Ford Model T 1911 conversion

I really don't mean to be joking but isn't 10kW reaching down into the RC plane region? Like this https://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalog/helicopter/motors_4/hk-45_1/hk-4540_400_8/ but China version and cheap brushless controller yes it is in terms of power, but the extremely high revs and short lif...
