Re: Outlander Rear Motor - Spinning/Flipping
Not taken the plunge and committed to a project page yet. Plan is to put this or a Toyota MGR into an Audi A2, which I think is getting a little cliched as a choice of project but does lend itself really well to a conversion, being Aluminium meets rule 1 of not being a rust bucket.

Re: Outlander Rear Motor - Spinning/Flipping
https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30293#p30293 Seems to have it upside down without problems. I'm sure there are other mentions of this motor in all sorts of orientations and running backwards and forwards. That could be anecdotal though and obviously depending on application. Curious a...

and if that doesn't work then it's 'Lithium Powered Gear' and you've still got an LPG converted car
Sorry couldn't help but carry on with the ludicrous nature of the DVLA's stance
Shame politics is circling the drain at the moment, hopefully we'll land on a transport secretary that 'gets it'

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread
Like I said, probably abandon for a separate charger for ease, but there's just that compactness that is attractive. Was looking at the mini countryman hybrid packs with 10kwh, 5 modules, and a voltage range of roughly 224v to 336v for the pack - quick bit of maths for a 6 module 330e pack dropping ...

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread
hmm, suspect the 'cheap for a reason' inverter I've got is because it is actually dead. I've connected the board up in the inverter and just checking different connectors after no leds come on. The 50way, when connected, neither board turns on. When disconnected the OI board does, but manillas the r...

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread
Yeah atmega328p on the board, Charger and boost converter. I’ve been having a read of the code for it, just trying familiarise myself with the hardware. Looking to try and make that ‘do it all solution’ before I probably also abandon it for a separate charger :) Got an(other) Audi A2 to convert alon...

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread
One further question. The MG1 and MG2 current sense connectors. I've soldered them 'notches out' as per silk screen and wiki, but on the Toyota board they're notches in. So I have to turn the cables around to attach it? There's also a gap in the wiki about updating/instructions for the Atmega328p fi...

if the £ pound hadn't tanked against the $ these would be reasonably similar in price including shipping, etc.
Seems getting one at the moment is around £300.

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread
Just double checking before I start soldering the tricky little chips that came with the kit. IC14 being the hardest to see, but there appears to be a notches to how I've orientated and placed it? IC12 looks more straightforward and was confirmed earlier, but just wanted to double check. Check twice...

Could additional batteries be mounted in the transmission tunnel? given it had an exhaust and prop shaft running down it.
I presume you might have already offered them up to that space though.

Re: Smart Roadster
Also, why not a Mini Countryman / BMW Series 2 hybrid rear diff? 100kW motor, built in diff. There's a few electric rear diffs that offer a nice little package for front or rear drive /axle replacement conversions IMO. Unlike the Toyota/Lexus MGR which was focused on a partial 4wd design, these offe...

Re: Pocket CAN Logger
Would something plugged into the OBD2 port work? I've only really started scratching the surface of CAN Bus myself. I presume the aim is for something that can be posted and used by anyone to capture data of cars with components we'd love to learn about as per the i3, so the OBD port would be nice a...

Re: First EV Conversion
You could start a thread in the projects section. Love the Smart Roadster and many years away I might do a similar conversion. Would batteries in the froot / frunk actually balance out the car more? One of the things I've read, although obv. you're an owner and can say more, is that the front end is...

I haven't yet. Had a good read of some of the stuff on the link ChazFisher provided. I'm also having a good read of the Model 3 fast charger dev work that's going on at the moment too. tbh I'm at the stage -1 where I'm actually building the bench to actually bench test stuff on. Although I did splas...

The articles I read about it suggest that it is the same as the i8, but with everything turned down. The ICE primarily.

Re: Polycarbonate battery box?
Well it's like any material choice really. What does it have to do, what material is suitable to achieve what you're after for what design trade offs and benefits. I'd presume the biggest factor is regulatory. As in what does it have to survive to be allowed to put it in your car, so you need to fin...

How charging works?
Is there a good video, or site that explains how you feed electric into the battery, how the BMS works in relation to it, etc around? Googling around charing an electric car brings up endless stuff around the art of getting an EVSE / Charing Station to work, not the mechanics of the system on the ca...

Watched a video of a tour of their place by Johnny Smith (aka Carpervert) where they discussed this and other bits. Re: XJ8 2003 conversion
looks like it depends on the brakes being either inboard or outboard, the latter delivering more space in the rear subframe that might fit the motor? the former might need the motor mounting outside of the subframe, I'm picture the large tesla drive unit, so where the power comes out, that intrudes ...
