Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

I’ve been commuting in the Cappuccino for the last couple of weeks and all has been going well so far. The MGR performance below 30mph is actually very good. It’ll spin wheels and get the back end sliding in the wet if I floor it. :) Above 30mph it’s not fast but it will keep up with traffic. Top sp...

Re: Changing the FW portion of the inverter SW

Fair enough. I’ve got mine back on the road and I’m finding the performance acceptable. It would still be nice to improve it but I’m planning to continue using it as it is and try to get my head around the field weakening stuff alongside.

Great. Updated it and from a brief test seems to be much better. :-)

Re: FOC low speed stuttering

I see that you’ve added a field weakening start parameter. From the previous discussion in this thread I guess playing around with this should help the low speed stuttering?

Ah great. I’ll update it then :-)
Does 5.13 have fixes that should help with the stuttering?

Re: FOC low speed stuttering

No. I can’t remember the exact version off the top of my head but it’s a version that you modified to allow me to run the booster while driving. I assume this isn’t a feature of 5.13? I’m running with the voltage permanently boosted up to around 550V which definitely helps with the performance of th...

Re: FOC low speed stuttering

Was any more progress made on this? I now have my MGR powered Cappuccino back on the road and have exactly the same symptoms as Bexander - stuttering at very low speeds and especially bad when under load (manoeuvring in my sloped driveway).

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

Cappuccino update! It’s been off the road since last summer after the Brusa charger broke. I’ve replaced it with a Volt charger (thanks to Arber) and finally got it MOTed and back on the road. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some use out of it now. The MGR is working well enough but I’d like to invest...

Re: Halved current during field weakening

My MGR powered Cappuccino is off the road at the moment due to working away and a charger problem. However, I’m planning to stick with the MGR so would be happy to help with testing any ideas. I think I need to do a lot of reading to catch up with where you guys are at though…

Wanted: Brusa charger or similar

Does anybody have a Brusa NLG513 or similar that they no longer need?

Thanks

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

Did some more thorough testing this afternoon. High load, full throttle runs from standstill to 30mph up an incline. With booster at 530V (see plot below): - throtcur at 3, AC motor current shows 300A - max DC current of 160A according to my JLD404 (approx 50kw) - strange behaviour of idc on the plo...

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

I did think about that being the issue, I guess it could be the cause if the torque drops off a lot after the peak toque is reached. Just seems a bit counter intuitive to put bigger wheels on for better performance! I think it would be difficult to fit tyres that were much bigger too.

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

I suppose it is possible that originally the limit was the voltage but now it is the boost converter power and the symptoms for both are exactly the same. Variable boost rate didn’t seem to make a difference although I could do some more thorough testing now that I have the other issues sorted. The ...

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

Bit of an update on the MGR that I have in my Suzuki Cappuccino project for those who haven’t seen my project thread. I’m now permanently boosting the voltage to just over 500V. I’ve sorted a few little issues that were preventing me from testing properly so it’s now fully driveable on the road. Unf...

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

It was supposedly from a 2012-2015 RX450h so should be a Q211 but I can try to double check. There’s also the fact that Bexander has found exactly the same performance characteristics in his Renault Clio with the MGR. This makes me think that it is not just a problem with my setup. As far as I’m awa...

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

I initially had it running at 320V with the booster removed completely and the issue was the same (actually worse, boosting the voltage has increased the performance slightly). I’ve never been able to put any more than 15-20kw through the MGR with or without the booster.

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

Finally got out for a proper test drive today. I had been having DC-DC issues which were stopping me going very far. I’ve done the mod Johannes described above to stop the problems when turning on. This now works perfectly. With the voltage permanently boosted to just over 500V it can maintain 30mph...

Re: Prius Gen 2 DCDC Converter

I’d been having issues with the DC-DC not working most of the time, it would occasionally output 14V but mostly it wouldn’t output anything. Disconnected pin 3 (voltage regulation?) today and it’s now working fine. It does output just over 14V now (14.15V) but I’m not having the issues I had previou...

Re: Suzuki Cappuccino

I’m having some issues when turning the car on. I get overvoltage errors and a strange fast clicking sound from the inverter during precharge. It has happened since I added the booster in. I’m wondering whether the PWM could be going to 100% for a few seconds during boot up? It happens no matter wha...
