Re: Can I charge a Tesla battery outside of the car?

you would need a method to control the battery contactors, and a way of controlling the charger itself. I would imagine its fine sitting at 30%, so long as the BMS boards arent sitting active the whole time. Well I'll ultimately need to charge it anyways, once it's in the car, so what would that be...

Can I charge a Tesla battery outside of the car?

So, I stripped a Model S 75D and the shell is gone. The battery pack was around 30% when I removed it from the car. I have the charge port, all the HV cables, and the onboard charger, battery pack, etc. Is it possible to charge it while it's sitting there not yet ready to go into the conversion car?...

Re: [WIP] Dual motor W124 E320 Estate

I've finally got a Tesla donor from which to harvest parts. It's a 2018 Model S 75D. So I believe this is a better charger (but maybe not their absolute highest capacity?) than earlier years. Is that correct? https://www.benzworld.org/attachments/1000006996-jpg.2853254/ I'd like youz guyzes input on...

Re: [WIP] Dual motor W124 E320 Estate

Lovely, used to have one of these, just never made friends with the ridiculous fuel consumption. Porting an entire modern car system into another vehicle is considered a pain in the A-pillar. Rolling with the OI boards can be as simple as connecting the same throttle signal to both for permanent 4W...

Re: [WIP] Dual motor W124 E320 Estate

That's about what I expected would be the case. As neat as it would be to completely modernize this old clunker, it's not what I'm interested in doing right now. Porting over every feature can be a project for someone else. I just wanna go fast. In that case, am I correct in understanding that OI wo...

[WIP] Dual motor W124 E320 Estate

Hi all I'm not sure [WIP] is the proper tag at this point, but it's the closest available. I still feel like I'm in the planning stages, but I could use a bit of help already. That's probably a sign but I'm going to willfully ignore it and push on. What I really want to build is a Tesla dual motor c...

Following

Can you share any resources you have regarding NHRA requirements for EVs? I've been struggling to find them. Did you do a pre-event tech review? How did you arrange that?

Re: Open Inverter Takes on Hot Rod Drag Week

Hell yeah!! What a legend! The first EV swap to complete Drag Week is a gargantuan accomplishment. Outstanding work! 2024 might be an aggressive timeline for myself, I'm not really sure yet. I'll say perhaps. I'd LOVE to, but I don't want to rush for an arbitrary deadline. Is street machine eliminat...

Re: EV Conversions on Day 4 of Power Tour

Are you planning to do any more Hot Rod events? I passengered Power Tour a couple years ago and had an awesome time. That was in an ICE vehicle. It's partly what inspired me to work towards building a car for Drag Week. Which is why I'm here on this forum. I think it's only been done in one EV so fa...

Base vs. Performance model

Hi, This may be a bit of a silly question, but I haven't seen it explicitly stated anywhere and I want to be sure. I know there ARE differences between the Tesla base and performance models, but what about with respect to the open inverter board? Can it control either version? I've also read that th...
