Re: GS450H Discussion
(politely asking) Hey Bryson! I'm working on doing a GS450h conversion for a Series II XJ6L, and I was wondering how you did up the rails/mounts for the GS450h, and the battery packs. (I'll keep digging since I think I saw the post for the car on another forum.) Just trying to simplify an engineeri...

Re: GS450H Discussion
Those gear ratios seem about right to me. I arrived at the torque factors by butt dyno. I’d steadily and smoothly roll on throttle for various settings and if I detected a change in acceleration when transitioning from one motor to the next, I went back and iterated until I couldn’t detect any bump ...

Re: GS450H Discussion
I’ve been playing with the software in mine lately, I’ve got only MG2 active until 20% throttle (to 50% of it’s available torque), then MG1 ramps up from 20-50% throttle while keeping MG2 constant, then they both ramp up together after 50% as the original firmware had them. This keeps the car more e...

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Anyone here ever figure out how to do a smooth 1-2 or 2-1 shift? I’ve got a clunky way of shifting but would love to implement a more useable low gear mode with an auto Up and down shift.

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
I don’t recall using 5V anywhere, just 12V from the car’s regular bus voltage

Re: GS450H Discussion
I run one 4x8” radiator with two small fans behind it for both, looping through motor then inverter, no problems with temps at all. 1 D5 pump at medium duty, maybe 50%. I stopped monitoring after a couple weeks as it just never really got too hot.

Re: GS450H Discussion
I’ve done about 3000 miles driving daily on mine, no issues at all other than a clunk developing from my rear suspension. Probably too many low gear burnouts ! Longest continuous trip so far was about 170 highway miles there and back. Another thought regarding the motors. Running one motor at medium...

Re: GS450H Discussion
I wonder if we should change the code to only use MG2 to provide torque until ~25% load. I’ve noticed the same gear whine and lash and it bugs me too. It seems quieter at higher loads in my car which is pretty interesting.

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
I only allow shifts at stop or very low torque, I wouldn’t say it’s ready for prime time. I basically just use it for doing burnouts..

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
I used FWD in my car as well, and I use B in my firmware to shift into low gear (it doesn’t have to be momentary if your setup doesn’t have a spring return). Works great

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
Mine is posted here, basic shifting at very low speed plus low to high shifting at very low torque loads. No PWM on the solenoids though. If you figure it all out I would love to incorporate it into my code.

Re: GS450H Discussion
The VCU knows motor speed and gear position, it doesn’t need the external speed signal to know how fast everything is turning..

Re: Lexus GS450H VCU Support Thread
It doesn’t need P but it does need either a drive or reverse signal, otherwise the code won’t spin the motor

Re: Simp BMS
Got it. The variable CANmilliamps was trying to pull from the rx buffer and not the can message buffer. Set CANmilliamps as below and we're good to go! ISA shunt compatibility B)
Code: Select all
CANmilliamps = ((inMsg.buf[5] << 24) | (inMsg.buf[4] << 16) | (inMsg.buf[3] << 8) | (inMsg.buf[2]));

Re: Simp BMS
Hey Tom, found the [Serial.print] line of code that was missing and got an output from the ISA shunt showing in the debug menu. Looks like I'm getting CAN but still nothing making it to the BMS itself. Maybe we're parsing the message incorrectly?: Contactors open: contactors open.png Contactors clos...

Re: Simp BMS
you need to only turn on candebug and then fully exit the settings menu. It will the show the scrolling debug and between that all the canbus traffic. Sadly this isn't showing anything when ISA shunt is selected, just the regular serial interface with no additional data. Here's a shot with the CAB3...
