Re: Telsa S P100d for sale in NZ
Its the Sky City one from middle of last years fire. They "lost" the battery when it was removed for safety reasons. The mechanicals will be mostly ruined as it has been wet for six months or so. The panels would go well on one of the crashed ones, I believe the person who bought the crash...

Re: My etsy shop for 3D models of EV parts and a vehicle modeling offer
I'm doing similar but with a 3d scanner for the rough dimensions-ish stuff. IMO not worth the hassle of selling cad models as you'll run into the same issue Damian did with a million questions and emails, and then getting blamed for things not being perfect. Spend the time at work doing proper engin...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit Support Thread
Just saw the comment that there are no hardware interlocks on the SDU and LDU gate drivers(!) This is doin me a small concern, I wonder how much work is involved in adding interlocks. Must investigate now that we have a mandatory four weeks of garage isolation

Just a note to say don't trust the accuracy of some models, +/-20mm would be a good margin of error. There is a full Model S on Grabcad but it isn't suitable for mockup as it is.

That looks like a high current, low voltage event rather than something on the HV. All the HV gear I have blown up goes bang and flies to bits without much smoke. Unless there was water in it, then fun stuff like that happens

Re: Tesla LDU traction control thread
That's a neat way of implementing it with no extra hardware. I will have the stock Tesla ABS module and sensors so this could work in my setup except for when the reference frame is lost, i.e. all wheels are spinning. There are some neat radar speed sensors that are really for agricultural machines ...

Re: Rolls Royce with a Tesla Drivetrain
I'm going to be using Tesla S batteries, full pack. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cool project! The battery is about 600kg and you may have to cut out and remake a lot of the floor to fit it in. It'll quite likely too wide for the Rolls too, S is a massive car. You may be required to keep ...

Re: Tesla inverter replacement Board - config (power output limitation)
- Use a lower DC voltage - it decreases power linearly. Out of curiosity, how does that affect field weakening? The graphs I saw showed field weakening starts slightly above open road speed at the nominal voltage, surely if you dropped the voltage significantly it'd be running in fw mode a lot of t...

I'm over east a bit, doing similar with a couple of Teslas and a Chevy. Love these voltrod projects, there are more turning up every month now.
Good score on the donor car, could it have been an indie mechanic got way out of his depth and then suddenly the car was stolen?

Re: LDU performance which one.
the part number for the sport version doesn't change, only the revision letter so I suspect it could be the same thing from day one. That doesn't tally with what is for sale though, they are always listed for a year bracket e.g. 2012-2017 and you can find crossovers between sellers year brackets so ...

Was this an auction win? How much? (if it's not a rude question) It didn't sell at auction twice. I made an offer before the first auction and they rejected it. Made another offer $2k less and after some discussion it was accepted. Fair price given what it is. Have a buyer for the battery immediate...

Re: Transaxle Modifications
Anyone have a definitive answer if the Prius with a welded planetary gear can run at 100kph and do it for extended periods of time (assuming adequate cooling is provided)? I'm wondering out loud if a modified Prius transaxle would be suitable for a (BMW) Mini or MR2 conversion. Tesla SDU would be b...

Re: Tesla Model 3 Rear Drive Unit Hacking
Been looking at the component specs and discussing with a very learned MC designer here. Given how integrated it is and that all the gear is about as good as you can find, is it worth trying to erase the micro and reprogram it? If that isn't possible then resolder another one onto the board. I belie...

Yes they are limited...I am initially going to try some off the shelf 120.65 wheels that are 20x10 and 8.45 back space +75mm offset. Those measurements will fit great assuming I can make the bolt pattern work out. Plan B will be to custom order wheels. The hubs can't be easily redrilled to another ...

Re: 1972 Plymouth Satellite Tesla LDU Swap
What wheels are you going to fit? The choices are somewhat limited by the metric lug pattern but it does appear acceptable to modify Chevy pattern to metric by shifting the conical faces by 0.3mm. Also it looks like there isn't much clearance to the bodywork at the back, will you have to run offset ...

There's a FB group of EV Landrover-ers. How much is the converted Mini? 79000 pounds starting price, don't know if that includes the car or is only the cost of converting. Probably is the price for a completely converted ready to go car. Anyhow quite a steep price level if you ask me. Wow! What mar...

Re: Mini Classic/Tesla SDU Build
This is a neat project. The SDU isn't particularly heavy, two skinny guys can lump one into the boot of a Model S without damaging anything and it will have enough torque to make a Mini swap ends very easily if you put it in the back. The hard part of your project will be suspension and brakes, none...

The problem is that Tesla's financial muscle will prevent a lot of people from challenging this action. Yup, for the short term yes- this is the whole point of doing it, money is just another vector for controlling people. It will take quite some time to build up sufficient resources to challenge T...

Re: 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
If you plan on going fast, be sure and pay attention to antisquat. Most IRS setups are under 100%, not good for dragweek (which will have very little track prep). You might look into C4 IRS setup with custom 4 link mounts and half shaft conversions. You can dial in more antisquat with them. That is...

$3800 is still pretty steep for a single tool, especially when I can use a tape measure to get close enough. Yep, true.
