Re: Interfacing: model 3 PCS <--> aem EV BMS-18 master
The AEM BMS only needs to see the CP and PP pins if the VCU is directly controlling the OBC. If not they can be left disconnected.

Re: Charging in subzero
Modern OEM vehicles will condition the batteries before allowing them to charge when it gets really cold. This may take the form of heating the batteries while charging at a very low rate and increasing the charge rate as the pack temp increases, or in extreme cases it may practically withhold charg...

Re: We will no longer be able to hide subscribers count on YouTube
I read somewhere that it was to crack down on the spam/clone accounts that try to steal a popular channels identity to pull scams. That way if you do somehow end up on their (copied) homepage they cant hide that they don't actually have the successful channel they are claiming to have. I don't have ...

The LDU inverters DC-Link caps are only are rated for 450V so anything above that will be at your own peril.

Re: Tesla subframe: same for SDU and LDU?
I think it would be really involved to reduce the track width of the tesla subframe/suspension. Doing it would involve completely redesigning and fabricating the suspension and getting the geometry right would be a huge challenge.

I would focus 100% on the battery first, everything else is secondary.

Re: Partlist for a Tesla Swap Project
Don't underestimate the role of the batteries in the ultimate power the system makes. The delivered power is almost always limited by the current the batteries can supply at a given voltage rather than the motor itself. The P85 vs P100 you mentioned is a great example since the motor in both is iden...

Re: CAN message gain
HI Forum. Is it possible to set a divider in the gain area when mapping a CAN message ? I am transmitting 'Turns' to use for odometer but would like to divide the Turns value by 422 so Turns increments by 1 every 1/10th mile. Fingers crossed its possible :-) Thanks. Peter Couldn't you use (1/422) a...

Re: AEM Tesla Control
They designed it with Cascadia motion (the people behind the Rinehart inverters) so I think its a pretty sick little board! The board is pretty nice but the real effort has been in the inverter drive and motor characterization. Engineering here has done over 1000 dyno runs just on the Base LDU to d...

the DBC file should have a ton of info in it. Have you dug into it or are you committed to changing out the OEM control board?
I am interested in hybridizing a race car. Adding an extra ~100hp and using regen to charge it back up again every lap sounds real interesting.

Re: AEM Tesla Control
The question I would raise, having had a huge multitude of Tesla Drive units apart, how will AEM be dealing with the DOA Tesla drive units (these are salvaged units after all) that the boards get fit to by unwitting customers? As shifting the blame onto the replacement board would be quite an easy ...

Re: AEM Tesla Control
Sorry, I don't see that as a kick at open source. The open source boards require the user to have specific technical skills to get their project up and running. That's totally fine for someone who is interested in acquiring those skills for their project. I would call that their hobby and I believe ...

I think that the ability to buy a fully premade board that comes with full free engineering support, requires no special inverter knowledge and is covered by a warranty is definitely a feature to certain segments. It's really not aimed at the same market the open source boards are. Here, people want...

Re: DBC file for Isabellenhütte IVT-S?
Here is one I made that contains the default channels the IVT-S sends out. There are a bunch more that are interactive that I didn't add as I don't use them. You should probably rename the extension to .dbc as I had to change it to .txt for the forum to allow me to attach it here. ivts.txt The defau...
Re: AEM VCUs
The VCUs are aimed at installers who want a single solution for vehicle control. They control the contactors, pumps, fans, on board charging, battery BMS integration, DC/DC converter, A/C compressor, Cabin Heating, HVIL, and of course Inverter control. If needed it can control the vehicle lighting a...
