Re: LDU Coolant delete
There is a good thread on the facebook group "Tesla Swapped EVs" about this. It sounds as though everyone is doing the coolant delete now rather than trying to get a new seal to actually seal. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1258821347630690/permalink/2480298695482943/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Uc...

FWIW - I swapped my A/B today and it fixed mine too.

Re: Help with Tesla LDU v6 First Benchtop Spin [SOLVED]
Yep! swapping the encoder wires (A/B) did it.
I have uploaded a video here:

Thanks everyone!!! especially Damien and Johannes!!!
Next step,.. determining if it will actually fit in my rx8 (unlikely)

Re: Tesla LDU Bench Test: turns slowly, cogs, but has good Hall signal
I am having this exact phenomenon with my sport LDU. I just made my first attempt to spin it about an hour ago and ran into this. The motion and speed on my LDU shaft looks identical to yours. moves very slowly and very jerky / pulsing. I am running 2 car batteries (25v - same as you). I am also usi...

Re: Help with Tesla LDU v6 First Benchtop Spin [SOLVED]
Ok, so I tried to spin it today. 24V (2 car batteries in series) w/60A fuse & 4kw hot tub heating element in parallel with the fuse. (I tested the heating element on the benchtop power supply on its own and it pulled 1.5A@24V) It technically did spin (extremely slowly and very jiggly) but blew t...

Re: SDU Board Firmware update or not to update?
I am in the same boat. My LDU board is 5.20. When you update the firmware are those 2 parameters now visible? Or should I just assume they are set correctly since they are hidden?

Re: Possible error on OpenInverter Wiki ? [SOLVED]
I installed the open inverter board today into the LDU and booted it up via the harness. I can confirm that pin 8 is the correct pin for reverse (I flipped the switch to reverse and the value was reflected correctly in open inverter).

Possible error on OpenInverter Wiki ? [SOLVED]
I am wiring up the 23 pin ampseal connector, and I noticed a discrepancy regarding the reverse gear on the wiki on this page here: https://openinverter.org/wiki/Tesla_Model_S/X_Large_Drive_Unit_(%22LDU%22)#Main_I/O_Plug The table suggests reverse should be pin 8, but this image earlier on the page s...

Protecting Inverter from inductive spike during fault scenario
I watched Damien's video and have been reading about all of the failed inverters due to loosing power from contactors turning off while in motion, and am trying to confirm the best setup to prevent this from happening to me. Below is what I am thinking, could anyone confirm if this sounds right or i...

Help with Tesla LDU v6 First Benchtop Spin [SOLVED]
Hello, I have soldered the connectors on to the "Large DU Logic Board v6" and confirmed I can log in to it with 12V power. I have gone through Damien's tests for the LDU and the values seemed to align with his video, so I'm hoping the DU is viable. I am now preparing to spin it on the benc...

12V Fuse and Current Limit for Large DU Logic Board V6
I am going through Damien's video for bench testing the "LARGE DU LOGIC BOARD V6" and wanted to confirm a couple things before I try power it on for the first time. 1. What size fuse is reccomended for the 12V power input? 2. (Maybe a redundant question) - When powering it up from a bencht...

Throttle Cable Adapter Best Practices?
Could anyone suggest the best approach for adapting the existing throttle cable to interface with open inverter? Is there a known part that can be used for this purpose I could find in a wrecker? Or is there a good aftermarket kit anyone would reccomend? Or is it better to try replace the entire ped...

Re: How to remove Telsa LDU End Plate? [SOLVED]
Thanks again! That worked like a charm!
I threaded the 2 motor mount holes and then the 1 on the opposite side for the 3rd bolt. I then just used a chisel to hammer on the head of the 3rd bolt.

How to tell if a tesla LDU is viable?
I ran the inverter diode tests from Damiens video and then removed the rotor. No sign of coolant leakage in the rotor/stator cavity or the inverter from what I can tell. It does have the typical issue with the rotary encoder though and some pitting as a result. So I will have to deal with that someh...

Re: How to remove Telsa LDU End Plate? [SOLVED]
I just showed my method here: https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=59605#p59605 Thanks! How many do you reccomend using? Just 2? Or every bolt hole at once? Is there any concern that this method could affect the alignment in any way? Or does the end plate have alignment dowels of some kind?

How to remove Telsa LDU End Plate? [SOLVED]
I recently purchased a Tesla LDU and ran Damien's basic inverter tests and am now inspecting the rotor and stator to ensure it looks viable before I invest further $$ in the OpenInverter board. I am trying to get the end plate off, but man,. It doesnt seem like there is any good way to do it. There ...

Re: Put ESP32 on Tesla LDU and SDU board
Hi, Newbie here, just purchased a sport LDU and am reading up and planning out how to go from where I am to spinning on the bench with low voltage. Once I have run through Damien's tests to validate the motor is usable, I am planning to buy the Tesla LDU drop-in logic board (community edition). But ...
