Re: e-Golf battery upgrade: How does an EV know the size of battery it has installed?

I won't be of much help besides linking to some work that may be of interest or could help with what you're trying to do. In the event that you just can't code the increased capacity in coding / basic settings / adaptations here's some info on going the deep route. The effort in this link is for edi...

Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors

These arrived a couple weeks ago. The strain relief tabs worked out well.
Seems the transistor isn't working as expected, I haven't had time to dig into it though. I'm behind on my work and likely won't get to this for a few weeks.

Re: Tesla ModelX Gen2 iBooster Hardware and Software

I have manual brakes in my race car (it's not fancy.) It starts off at 6:1 to take up the play then ends up about 14:1 at full braking and achieves full travel of the brake master cylinders with a full swing of the brake pedal. It's a bit odd to drive at first but after a few times you hit the brake...

Re: Tesla ModelX Gen2 iBooster Hardware and Software

My ibooster reports 38mm when the rod is fully released This is without anything pushing on the booster, correct? so I pushed the rod in until it reports 0mm and secured to the pedal that is fully released. This sounds a lot like you're pressing the booster in. If the brake master is there too it's...

<t>I would imagine the ibooster is reporting how much travel is left from the starting point / brake pedal fully up.<br/> <br/> When it gets to 0 I'd suggest this is being considered as the bottomed out point. <br/> <br/> Past that 0 point I'd expect the booster to report something along the lines o...

Re: Power steering cooler

It's hard to know how efficient the zafira pump is. But if it did not have a cooler line originally you might be able to eliminate it. Personally I would try to reroute the cooler line and keep it. I've had the power steering fluid boil over in one of my track cars, had to add a cooler after it was ...

Re: Motor to gearbox couplers

My best guess from the info is that there is a misalignment issue. Any chance of mounting a dial indicator on one of the shafts and rotating it around to measure to the other shaft? And if you mean the splines were off by 1mm that's a lot. You might also be able to put 2 dial indicators on the trans...

That looks ultrasonicly welded, or the intent was there.. And you should probably use some anti-corrosion goo too. A backup like a...

Re: Brake servo Vacuum hold time.

Vacuum boosters can develop leaks as they age. With an internal combustion engine there is a strong and high volume vacuum source that can mask the leak as well as the sound of the leak. You should be able to hear the leak. You can carefully put a tube in your ear (like a stethoscope without the dia...

Re: Running an extra motor for regen only

If converting a 4WD vehicle, would there be any advantage in adding a 2nd motor for the FWD component and using it solely for regen? You could, but it's a lot of space, packaging, work, and likely weight specifically for regen. In a similar thought experiment you could use a large motor for the fro...

Re: [Driving] Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!

I even found a spot to try accelerating hard from a stop and discovered it's possible to spin the rear wheels. I can also tell from the video that the car is transferring a lot of weight to the back when accelerating this hard. I do think I am going to have to go with stiffer springs! If you're wil...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

The encoder would very likely be completely fine running submerged in oil. The shaped o-ring is likely meant as a backup to keep oil out of the inverter area if the oil seal leaks. Seems like the shaft seal has a leak there if there's oil inside. The o-ring swelling sounds like they may have used th...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

Oil is difficult to ignite. It needs to be thin and well atomized to light. Or it needs very high heat.
There's also a fixed amount of oxygen available inside the transmission, so even if it did manage to light it would be very short lived.

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

I'd suggest way lower than 10psi if you decide to pressurize it.
The oil will thin out a bunch when it gets warm and will leak out easier then.
My suggestion is to drive it and check. Then if it seems good, check the oil level at 100, 1000, and 3000 miles.
