Re: Project demystification - make openinverter.org more accessible

This seems like a problem ideally suited to the application of artificial intelligence. https://chat.openai.com/ I asked it this question: How could open a chatbot be applied to a technical forum such as open inverter OpenAI's chatbots could be applied to a technical forum such as an inverter forum ...

Re: Transaxle Modifications

The latest teardown video from Weber University. It seems that MG1 is designed to over speed to provide extra overdrive. MG1 takes power from the HV battery to spin faster than the ICE to add mechanical drive. For EV conversion purposes, I'm taking this to mean that there is no need to weld the PSD....

Re: Transaxle Modifications

I know you've put a lot of work into the fix for the gen 2 tranaxle so that it will pass the strict rules in France for modifying OEM components. but can I ask why you've not considered the Gen 3? Unless I am missing something important, the Gen 3 only needs an external modification to mobilise the ...

Re: Getting started - Batteries not included

Still a ways off getting any type of project started, but I have my eye on a Toyota MGR, and a Prius Gen 3 inverter, given the activity around them. Plan is to convert my Audi A2 (1.6 FSI Sport) Anyway, question is. I can see myself getting the motor and inverter, getting the Gen 3 board, but I was...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

So I talked to Thomas today. He is very grateful that you are willing to sponsor the drivetrain but he thinks he does not possess the skills to mount a foreign transmission into his A2. So creating the mechanical structure for mounting and joining up drive shafts. He would rather stick to the conve...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

Damian has offered up a gen 3 inverter. Err, I think Damien offered a Gen3 Inverter control board. I.E. The thing he designed and had fabricated. Not the whole inverter. So he did. Thanks. Sounds good. I won't need a throttle pedal, A2 has electronic one already. So you'd get the funds together, or...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

£6000 conversion cost seems great to me. I’m looking to support a project that can be used as a template for a great number of conversions. The more conversions, the more of Damiens and Johannes boards get bought. ...Obviously it's your money but I really don't think we want to be promoting the ide...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

A catchy initial target for the project would be 60 miles at 60 mph of range for £6000. Or in metric 100 km at 100 kmh for 6000 euros. I think the proposed performance figures and price are unacceptable today given you can buy a good second hand Leaf for £5000. My suggested target would be 100 mile...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

Thanks for offering to fund this project. The need to change down to 1st gear on inclines really makes me think twice whether this motor is a good choice. I found a Prius transaxle here: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Toyota-Prius-III-ZVW30-2ZR-FXE-1-8-Hybrid-Automatik-Getriebe-Elektromotor/324005581669?h...

Re: Audi A2 /w Twizy Motor and Prius Inverter [FINISHED]

Seems crazy expensive for such poor performance... wouldn't a Prius transaxle fit in the A2? I already bought that motor a few months ago for 280 so we will make an effort to use it. For what it's worth I think the greatest innovation and gift to humanity of this open inverter forum has been the op...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?

As a hybrid, to an observer standing outside the transaxle, MG1 never spins in reverse. If MG2 spins clockwise then MG1 always spins clockwise. MG1 never spins anti clockwise. If you look at the way that the MG1, MG2 and ICE are mechanically connected together through the gearing, if the ICE was st...

Re: GS450h with 3 motors?

When you say freewheels backwards, in a stock (with ICE) situation, does that mean it's running the ICE backwards? Transaxle Modifications

Hey Mods. Can we have the rest of the thread from this point moved to this new topic. Bit of a tangent... a guy on the DIYEC forums was asking about the whole Gen2 transaxle thing and I couldn't find him a clear answer. I'm not sure what the difference was between what Damian did to the Lexus gearbo...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking

Either welding the PSD or locking the driveshaft achieves the primary aim of combining the output of both motors, but there is a secondary issue that determines which method can be used. Starting the video below at a point to highlight the important difference in design between Prius FWD transaxles ...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking

And, naturally, if you lock the Engine output (planetary carrier), with the ratio difference between MG1 and MG2, you're going to be spinning MG1 what looks (if scale in the diagram) maybe 4x as fast as MG2. Can MG1 handle that at highway or above highway speeds? Is it a concern? Is it not a concer...

However, we still need to split the power between the drive wheels. How do we do this? Thanks jnsaff. Two minutes of googling answered my own question. Re: Toyota / Lexus useful bits

As I understand it, the important difference is that the GS450h transaxle original purpose is in a rear wheel drive set-up but the Prius/Yaris/Auris is for front wheel drive. The RWD set-up feeds power to an external differential; the FWD has an internal differential - the Power Split Device. In bot...

Re: The SuperYacht BMW E65 7 Series

Using some rough and ready googling and back of a fag packet maths, I reckon there is likely to be plenty of life left in any transaxle from a well-maintained donor Toyota/Lexus hybrid. Given that 200000 miles in a car at an average 20 miles per hour implies 10000 hours use. An AC motor is good for ...
