Re: Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

The Tesla gearbox is 4.5:1 IIRC

I swapped the diffs to 3.42 lsd and I have 31” tires but will likely end up moving to 3.08s and possibly larger tires to further increase my top speed and ,more importantly, slow down the motor cruising at hwy speeds

Re: Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

Who’s got thoughts on mounting and BMS’ing the Model 3 modules? I really liked what SuperfastMatt did with his swap. My layout of the batteries in the vehicle will be very similar, but my current design has each module individually boxed. One problem I have is I didn’t buy the whole pack, so I dont ...

Re: Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

are you going to get a plunging rear drive shaft made with a support bearing? Yes, that’s the idea, a two-piece rear driveshaft with a carrier bearing mounted to the crossmember behind the LDU. The longer, rear section of the driveshaft will need a plunge or telescopic bit due to the solid axle sus...

Re: Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

As for the remainder of the build, I've Quaifed all over the LDU with new gearing and LSD, plus the trusty openinverter controller. I've got a prius accel pedal installed and prius power steering (not yet installed). I got driveshaft adapters made at the machine shop as you can see in the pics, but ...

Re: Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

For me the biggest challenge by far has been dealing with the Model 3 modules: both BMS control, and packaging them strongly and securely into the vehicle. I lifted the truck in order to make room for the batteries between the body and frame. The long modules will fit like a glove under the bed and ...

Chevy S10 AWD, Tesla LDU and Model 3 battery

Finally getting around to making a build thread. I’ve been making slow, steady progress on this build for quite a while now. It continues to be a learning project for me as I didn’t have much automotive mech or any fab or electronics experience before this. Let me know what questions you all have, o...

Wanted: Tesla Model 3 Penthouse

I purchased all 4 modules from a Model 3 pack in 2019 for my build. Considering the quality and energy/weight ratio of these batteries, I figured that open source BMS solutions would be right around the corner... bad assumption. Years later I'm nearly ready to start doing wiring and it seems like th...

Re: TSLA TJ

Gotta skip ahead a little so I can ask two quick questions: 1) I got my DU from StealthEV. I do not want to use the brake pressure transmitter at all. The only regen I want is through the pedal. I understand I can reprogram the cruise control input to an ECO input and if I set it (not sure what &qu...

Nice work! You mention intent to add in other BMS functionality to the board.. Would it still work in conjunction with SimpBMS as mentioned before, or be standalone, or work with Arduino?

Re: Tesla Model 3 Battery Build

Very cool. I am using a model 3 pack in my conversion... my box design is completely different, I will have to do a writeup when I am done. I am in a cold climate, so I decided to use a high strength fire retardant structural foam to provide most of the structural connection and double as insulatio...

Re: If you're having start problems, please read here

I think we found the problem, it’s the inverter side of the ampseal connector. See the fried black splotch on the circuit board (See pic) seems to correspond with pin 6. The one time I got things to work properly and shut the main contactor, I was using a contactor from Model3 (pictured). I’ve since...

I tried the above version (4.83) and got the TMPHSMAX error. I didn't get this error using 4.81 (posted in the 'start problems' thread). Will update over there too.

Re: If you're having start problems, please read here

Seems like this version (4.81) of firmware has eliminated the TMPHSMAX error, so that's good. I do get the TMPHSMAX error with firmware 4.83 from mux thread. Interestingly, the UDC spot value shows 100.84V although two different voltmeters both agree that my battery is 84V. I did change the encoder ...

I'll test this out today. My inverter (LDU) was changing to RUN mode, but wasn't closing the main contactor. Will report back with results using latest firmware.

Re: Prius gen2 hardware worth grabbing?

The prius also has a 12v gear selector.. I've got one but haven't tested it yet. I've found a few wiring diagrams online so far but the thing has 12 wires coming out of it (2 sets of 6). I'm guessing one is a failsafe to check the other, much like the prius accel pedal. Not sure yet.. but it's the o...

Re: Tesla Temp Mux Testing

I think my issue has one more difference than yours. When I hit the start signal my precharge relay does not open and thus I don’t think my inverter starts. there is a spot value, opmode, that changes from On to Run I believe when the start pulse is received, should allow you to know for sure. I ha...

Re: Additional Tesla ancillaries needed during purchase?

I'm interested in starting a conversion using a Tesla SDU. I have the car and have read a lot on this forum and others but have a question about acquiring the motor. When buying a Tesla SDU from a wrecking yard or similar, what other ancillaries are suggested? Should I be asking for any wiring conn...

Re: Tesla Temp Mux Testing

I tried this, the error is gone but the main contactor still will not close when the start signal is sent. I can still graph and show the start signal reaching the board. I'm having the same problem. When given 'start' pulse the inverter goes in to run mode, the precharge relay opens as it should, ...

I have some updates- 1. I soldered the current input 5V connection and now have equal voltage on all test points and no more maxcurrent stop code. 2. I tested continuity between every pin on connector 10 and the corresponding devices on the schematic. No bad solder joints, everything checks out. 3....
