Re: Going from 4WD to 2WD with the touch of a button, what is the correct approach
A really interesting experiment. I would love to see the difference in efficiency on the car before and after the mod. I agree about ICE motors. But they are a different beast entirely, combustion is a really inefficient way of creating torque, not to mention the pumping losses. With electric motors...

Re: Going from 4WD to 2WD with the touch of a button, what is the correct approach
Will this really make much of a difference in terms of efficiency? I would assume, all things being equal, it would take x amount of force to keep the vehicle at a constant velocity. If you have 2 motors then each will be providing a proportion of x if you dissconect one now the other will be supply...

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
I though from the beginning it should not be a problem whit top speed, despite those gear rations etc... I mean , Lexus top speed wasn't 100-120 km/h.. It is much more with the same gearbox... Why should be now the problem.. ok , you need to change low ratio diff etc.. but that is not problem.. And...

Considering the roads and traffic around here I actually managed to get some reasonably stable constant speed runs done this morning on some level roads Screenshot 2024-04-01 091910.png Screenshot 2024-04-01 092851.png Screenshot 2024-04-01 093501.png :) I am terrible at reading charts. Can't wait to see if it will happily cruise at 70-80ish, would be interesting to see current draw and if the temp stays stable at that speed.

Is there any info on the MGR project? It's still something I think about doing from time to time. Tried the forum search with no luck.

Re: Twining prius inverters. Implausible idea?
Thanks for the reply guys. It makes sense that the inverter is current limited not power limited. Also good to know for higher voltage systems maybe. boosting to 650v from 400v for the extra help against the back EMF? But it makes the use of a 90v system a non starter. I don't know of any other inve...

Twining prius inverters. Implausible idea?
I have can't seem to get rid of the idea of running two inverters with a boost function (ie a Prius inverter) and I want to run it by the collective to see if this could even be theoretically possible to match the phases so they don't just fry each other. The reason I would want to do this is I am l...

Do you have a feeling of the top speed with your diff and tyre set up? Also have you got both mg2 and mg1 spinning up? What did the power feel like? Great work by the way. Really interesting project.

Are the bearings in good condition? They are a common fail point on these Pumps. Also I have read that running them at around 60% is sufficient.

Re: GS450h without external oil pump
This is a really interesting topic. I was thinking of going the other way to solve the problem and want to in the next 6 months or so buy the l210 and the L110 to see if it is feasible to either; a) take the 1.9:1 gearing out of the 110 and fit into a 210 or b) design and get made some replacement 2...

Re: Low temps and our batteries
I made good quality biodiesel for years, the heaters can work very well on it so long as you get the burn right. However unless you make it with raw oil and use additives it's no good at low temps. It starts to jell at not too low temps depending on the type of oil used.

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3
I have used por15 a few times. It never held up that well even on sandblasted properly prepped steel. It's like powder coating. A hard coating but no adhesion. Eventually when it chips the rust start and it all flakes off. I moved onto epoxy mastic and never looked back. A far superior product that ...

I notice one large thing missing off the list, a BMS. What are your plans with this?
Kind regards, Luke

Re: Mercedes 310E (310D campervan) - GS450H/GS300H
Sounds like a great project. I have read up on the L210 (300h box) and also feel the gearing if off for most diff setups. How does adding an electric motor in place of the original ice act like an overdrive? Also how does welding the mg2 planetary gears make a difference compared to locking the inpu...

Great looking build. Some beautiful work there.
Really interested in the l210 transmission. Have you planned for the gearing? Are you going custom diff or is the max speed not going to be an issue?
