Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
What alternative do Tesla have for the end cap? Gaskets are not infallible either.

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
While machining a part such as this is relatively straightforward for those with the skills to draw it and with CNC, what will impress me is when somebody will start offering the various formed o-rings for the LDU. AFAIK, these are currently unobtainable, and having bespoke formed o-rings made isn'...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
I’ve bitten the coolant delete bullet too. Just fitted this from Revolt Systems in California. My car is used as a Daily, so didn’t have the time to have off the road whilst the existing manifold was modified. Took about 2 hours to fit. 679AA3D6-E1B5-433A-B48B-45467E8C917D.jpeg IMG_2474.jpeg IMG_247...

I bought these from Zero EV but only used them on my test bench set-up. Decent quality with built in economisers. They were £135 each from Zero EV / Fellten.

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance
A small update regarding my SKF seal and speedi sleeve. I pulled the encoder whilst fault finding this issue. The wheel was still dry. A little residue on the encoder but that might have been from the silicon used to seat the seal. Edit: forgot to mention that I think that's 17k miles on this set-up...

Re: LDU Forward and Reverse LV power issue
What DC-DC are you using? This one. https://shop.fellten.com/shop/tdc-iy-320-12-dc-dc-converter-206-454vdc-1kw-13064?v=79cba1185463 Think I found the issue; my little Davis Craig water pump was dying and pulling like 50 amps (I won’t mention that I fitted 40amp fuse to it temporarily 4 years ago) -...

Re: LDU Forward and Reverse LV power issue
Yes, there’s a load somewhere that’s significantly pulling the DCDC power down, or its enable signal is being intermittently interrupted (probably the latter). What I don’t understand is why it only happens when selecting a direction. Will start testing current draw as a first step. I also have a ch...

Re: LDU Forward and Reverse LV power issue
Just to add, I have a 5 amp fuse on the 12v FWD signal which doesn’t blow. How can such a drain be evident without blowing the fuse?
I recall Johannes saying that once the gate drive boards are active they can be quite power hungry, but this fault / issue is new.

LDU Forward and Reverse LV power issue
When selecting a direction, either FWD or REV, the LV current draw seems to be very high. Only occurs when pulling a direction high. I wondered if I had a short to ground on the car but I’ve eliminated that by giving the FWD pin 12v directly from the battery and the issue still remains. I can have a...

Re: [DRIVING] Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]
Went through all the thread but didn't find anything about it: weher do you take of the brake preassure for regen by openinverter? Prior to fitting an iBooster, I used an analogue pressure transducer on pot2 for brake pressure regen. However that’s now defunct since installing an iBooster. Today I ...

Re: 2nd LDU blown in a month - EDIT: False alarm. [SOLVED]
Need to test that sensor today. Thanks for all the help. Though Yesterday, I tested to disconnect the sensor, as I remember that motor tries to spin but shakes and rattles, but that gave me same result .. few times it rattled but most of time nothing happened. So I’m not very confident that it’s th...

Re: 2nd LDU blown in a month - EDIT: False alarm. [SOLVED]
How could I test the position sensor? I guess I can measure from the sensor end, that it’s getting ground and power. Not sure how to test the encoder channels wires. I guess web interface does not show the readings from encoder, or does it? Test continuity from the wiring encoder pins to the 23 pin...

Re: 2nd LDU blown in a month - EDIT: False alarm. [SOLVED]
My parameters have evolved through from a combination of circumstances, but importantly, I have not had a desat or overcurrent event for ages. It’s a fine balance between finding tune that suits all conditions and doesn’t risk damaging the inverter. Rather than worrying about performance too much at...

Boost very low, fweak very low, fweakstart low, throtramp very high, ampmin high.
Regen setting also very aggressive.
UDCmax @ 350!
These are my settings running LDU base, 360v nominal battery (400v). Firmware v5.20r.

Please can you post your parameters and firmware version. It makes no sense that you're munching through drive units like this.

Yeah, I read that after more thoroughly after changing the perfectly good condition seal to new leaking one :D What speedi-sleeve are you using? I is there specific dimensions, product code or so? What's wrong with the Aliexpress seal? I didn't see bad things reported about that. It’s all in the th...

Re: DESAT error
Just noticed that I should have used Speedi Sleeve with that seal.. I didn’t, and it leaked. Now bought the one that was recommended from AliExpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32942928844.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt CTLBDYW one. Hoping it works.. There is a huge thread about the rotor seal, ...
