Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
That new pin ordering makes a lot of sense. The contactors and the voltage monitor are likely to be located in a junction box that is very much a "car side" thing. Are all of the pins other than LOCK_MOT1 and LOCK_MOT2 referenced to ground? This would mean the only signal you need to bring...

Re: [DRIVING] 1992 Toyota Previa with Leaf stuff and lots of Tesla batteries
I finally removed the Prius gen3 inverter based 3 phase charger. This wasn't working for a long time already and was only dead weight and an isolation fault and a coolant leak waiting to happen. I have no idea why it stopped working and don't really care. Good riddance, as the car still has 3kW AC, ...

Re: Foccci wakeup/sleep discussions
the popular Outlander charger expects an undistorted CP signal I have heard it doesn't really need an undistorted CP signal, it just needs 12V PWM with a current limiting resistor. Not even -12...12V, just 0...12V. So foccci could just replicate the CP PWM to a new 0...12V output, as far as the out...

Re: [DRIVING] Opel Omega B2 + GS450H (the "EVOmega")
This one was made possible by having the same amount of bolts almost at the same radius which allowed me to interlace them. And the Omega propshaft having the same pilot pin diameter as the gearbox. Also, the backside of the gearbox output flange happens to be machined, which also was crucial. I thi...

Re: [DRIVING] Opel Omega B2 + GS450H (the "EVOmega")
The original propshaft flange adapter cracked and started to vibrate, so I had to make a new one. This one is pretty simple, it's laser cut from 10mm steel plate, then ground and welded a bit and bolted on the backside of the gearbox output flange just like the original. The flange and some of the b...

Re: Foccci wakeup/sleep discussions
I think it would be perfectly fine to have foccci powered up while driving. Actually it would be preferable. This allows one to check from it whether something is plugged in any time one tries to drive (as mentioned by tom), but also it allows a dashboard display to read any stored errors from foccc...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
That makes a lot of sense. This use case is mentioned on DRV8874's datasheet at 8.2.2 Alternative Application
Certainly it is much better value for money compared to the NCV8402.

Re: [DRIVING] Opel Omega B2 + GS450H (the "EVOmega")
I finished a preliminary install of uhi22's foccci 4.1, with a couple of modifications (I replaced the contactor drivers with mosfets and flyback diodes to enable economizing the contactors, and did the 5V/330ohm PP fix). I have now tested it to work fine on many different charger models (https://op...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
Ok so can we pick the versioning resistor for the PWM-capable version already? I don't want to fry my contactors with a future clara update. That's expensive and dangerous And it won't require other changes to my V4 board, right? Probably will with all the powersaving stuff and whatever. Ok I'll jus...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
Based on AN-016 the GV200 coils are 5.2 ohms and 18.5mH, so at 100Hz the current will pretty much stop and restart every pulse. Already at like 500Hz the coil will smooth the current to be more or less continuous. I don't think the contactors have been designed to handle a non-continuous coil curren...

Re: asking advice to buy a oscilloscope
If I were to measure the DC link in an EV I would prefer to use a differential probe. It's the easy way to make sure the scope and the humans survive. That may not fit in a tight buget though, in which case you will have to ground one side of the DC link in order to measure. Also make sure to use a ...

Re: Reverse Engineering an onboard charger PCB
It seems this part can be found in the gen1 Leaf, in which the OBC is located behind the rear seat. The ones after 2013 or so which we call gen2 have the PDM under the hood, which contains the OBC, and that doesn't have any potted transistors, it's all quite repairable.

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
We're not talking just about inductive spikes, those the NCV8402 can handle just about enough. The freewheeling required by PWM is what is the issue here. You cannot deal with that like inductive spikes, that way you lose way too much energy into heat. The TPS22810DBVR might be beefy enough. I haven...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
If you use a TVS, the off-cycle of the PWM will heat the TVS. It's inefficient and probably too much heat. When economizing a coil, you *want* a freewheeling diode, there's no other option. (well, aside from replacing the diode with a transistor, i.e. using a half bridge) You can make a high side sw...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
Yes that is going to be a problem in my V4 board when I add the diodes. However isn't the next version going to have an internal 12V switch (or regulator with shutdown capability) to power itself off even with permanent 12V connected (even if it's through contactors)? I simply don't like the NCV8402...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
Well I certainly didn't add any diode. I think it should be on the board itself, if the board needs it for the features that it provides. It's very inconvenient to provide diodes externally. EDIT: I now have two NCE6020AK MOSFETs waiting to be put on the board. One should be able to even drive both ...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
Nice! I have bad news. I think I fried my Clara's NCV8402 contactor drivers. When I set ActuatorTest to 3, the contactors clicked on, but when I set it to 0, they never opened. Then I noticed Clara was heating up a lot. Now the contactors are powered even if ActuatorTest is 0, and at the same time t...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
I usually use a timeout of 2 to 5 seconds in my CAN based systems. It doesn't make sense to aim for lower as you only lose flexibility and transmission error tolerance with no benefit. For my case, I already modified my CAN messages. They were kind of stupid anyway. I think it would be nice if the w...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
From a systems integration and safety standpoint it's probably best to set the CAN watchdog to look for the BMS message that updates ChargeCurrent. You definitely want charging to stop if you stop getting that value from the BMS. The only problem is, my BMS sends that value only every 500ms to keep ...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
The StopReason is "CANTimeout" because you're not feeding the CanWatchdog with zeros. Set DemoControl=Standalone to overcome Sounds like I probably should feed it with zeroes instead of setting that mode? So, I should map something on CAN to write a zero into CanWatchdog. What's the maxim...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?
I assumed there will be a momentary-contact switch near the charge inlet, to do user-input things such as: * discontinue charging * turn on the charge port light (to aid in guiding the nozzle to the port) * or whatever . . . Personally I have this on the dash, and the only thing it does is force CP...
