Re: Tesla's NACS and the Future of Fast Charging in North America
What about folks with a NACS/Tesla charger at home (I.e., wall or mobile connectors)? I assume these units lack all of the payment gateway/authorization stuff... Does charging via NACS connector at home already work with one of Damien's PCS boards (or Zombie VCU) or another OI-based solution? Is the...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
That seems a lot of HV DC contactors built in just to go for a ride when not needed. Maybe you could actually build a dedicated boost charger in the way EMW charger was built. Design is online. Rectification is not needed so no smearing on the AC network... just pure DC chopper. There is even Wifi ...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
Naturally, the next question is: does it scale? Could you do 3, 4, or even 6 motors in parallel? I recently had a long conversation with my neighbor. He wants to build a large mobile platform for Burning Man to crawl across the playa, potentially with up to six motors. His idea is to use a full Tesl...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
Did you mean AC charge via the motors? I am not sure the circuit would see this any different than AC charging in paralell. You would need to assure the same connection for L and N allways! SDU is a drive unit which can feed batery mechanicaly via regen. Did you mean PCS? Each PCS is 11kW charger s...

Parallel Onboard Charging?
If I had a 100kWh Tesla battery pack powering two Openinverter Tesla SDUs, could I simultaneously use both units' onboard 5kW charging capability to charge the battery at ~10kW? The idea is to have two separate 5kW solar setups, each feeding a separate SDU connected to the same battery. So, each SDU...

Re: Tesla SDU oil pump modification for reverse operation
The bracket seems to work well, so I had it CNC'd from aluminum. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ABLVV85nmQLXSv0hXej-dzGEQKvqWq4wq38KYu0JqB96Z6UJBTrGi3EeAGLiOp9_-4OX9CL8bN_DnEAfvHU3vcn8p_QgYSg-mvpLfJTWbaYRtXz69gm42AD5tbwtHqMfk8ED4mbaZ-MXLhFeGKTiiftSwxOZvyqBhtKMMek99x1zQyOpfwBX8r71CV9czrSOHWpaY-...

Re: Rear SDU lasterror: ENCODER [SOLVED]
Yeah, the parameters from the DB did the trick. Thanks! It's weird, I have a parameter file on my desktop that I swear I downloaded from the last SDU board I bought from the webshop. I must have somehow overwritten it with some other parameters. Can you tell what parameters I was using? Sorry to bot...

Rear SDU lasterror: ENCODER [SOLVED]
I just installed a V8 SDU board in a Rear SDU, and everything seems fine until I give it some pedal. It starts to spin but sounds terrible, and lasterror shows ENCODER. I found a few posts discussing the LDU and swapping the encoder wires. Could this also be the case in the rear small drive unit? Al...

Re: Custom half-shaft sleeve with diameter mismatch?
A spacer sleeve to center them would be ideal. It's really hard to weld something like this concentric. Even with the spacer sleeve it won't be perfect... To clarify, the axle halves are already welded together. I'm just trying to add a sleeve to them now. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ABLVV...

Custom half-shaft sleeve with diameter mismatch?
I mocked up a pair of custom half-shafts for a 2001 Honda Civic with a Tesla Front SDU by splicing some cheapo Model S axles with the stock Honda axles of a smaller diameter. I test-fit everything with the SDU installed, and everything fits well, and there is no binding with the suspension. Ultimate...

Re: Tesla SDU oil pump modification for reverse operation
So, I finally completed the oil pump reverse mod for my Front SDU. I followed @catphish's method with the grub screws for the regulator part and @Lood's approach for mounting the pump 180 degrees backward (with a slight difference). Thanks again for the help, guys! The main difference is I decided t...

Re: Tesla SDU/LDU wifi connectivity
Thanks for this.
I see in the V8 BOM the same part is used for L1 and L3. Should both be changed to use C394952 or just L3?
I'm happy to make the change and send a PR.

Hi nubster, I did it like this: https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56088#p56088 Not yet driving so i dont know if it will last. Oh wow, that's a cool way to do it. So you modded the valve, rotated the pump 180, tapped a new mounting hole, and are only using two of the three bolts now? I...

Re: Tesla SDU oil pump modification for reverse operation
I see now that the front SDU oil pump is different than the rear SDU oil pump. The front pump has the intake and output ports on opposite sides, whereas the rear pump has them on the same side. Even if I could modify my pump to work in reverse, I'm not sure there is enough room to route both hoses p...

SDU MX150 Female Connector STL
FYI, I just published an STL on Thingiverse for 3D printing a replacement SDU MX150 Female Connector. This part is very brittle and tends to break easily. As far as I know, replacements are unavailable, so I decided to make my own. It screws right into the aluminum case, and there is no need for the...

Re: Tesla SDU oil pump modification for reverse operation
The oil returns in the bottom opening, where the 3 phase cable go to the motor. If it is upside down the whole chamber of the motor will be filed by oil that cannot drain. Best is to get the motor and open it to get a better idea of what is going on. Thanks for the reply. To be clear, my motor is N...

Re: Test if SDU inverter is good or not? [SOLVED]
Is there any way to check if an SDU inverter is good without breaking the 3-phase wire VOID seal? Is there some way to check it via the logic board connector only?
I'd like to be able to test a drive unit at the wrecking yard before taking possession of it, if possible.

I wonder... has anyone actually managed to get an SDU spinning with a V8 board yet? Just wanted to confirm that yes, I have managed to get an SDU spinning with a V8 board. Apparently, something is wrong with my original inverter's power electronics, hence all of my issues. I got a new unit, and the...

Re: Persistent OVERCURRENT error after installing SDU V8 board w/new sensors
So, it would seem my inverter's power electronics indeed got damaged. I bought another SDU, took off the inverter, installed the original V8 board I built & programmed myself w/new sensors (the one giving me the weird voltage readings), and put it back on my original SDU, and it's happily spinni...
