Re: LDU won't spin. No errors. [SOLVED]
Thats why any critical connection I paint pen mark them once done. That way I can always see before putting the covers/caps on if I done the step. Specially handy too to check is no-one opened something after it left your shop. Yes, normally, I do that once I button it up for good. In this case, I ...

Re: LDU won't spin. No errors. [SOLVED]
Since you had the case open, triple check that you rebolted the motor connections. OMG. That was totally it! I've never been happier to be so dumb. Thank you! I remember now that I started them by hand and got a phone call, which distracted me, and I never came back and torqued them down. They were...

Re: LDU won't spin. No errors. [SOLVED]
It seems between the parameters and the spot values you have changed boost or udcnom? Because boostcalc is 29330 and expected is around 8000. But probably it is not the issue. Yeah, I tinkered with the boost a little, but it didn't help. I have since gone back to the base 1800 value. I see amp=2917...

Re: LDU won't spin. No errors. [SOLVED]
So all three control boards work in one LDU, but not another? Do they work in another LDU with the same input voltage/source you are using to test this one? Also, when you power up the trouble LDU, do you see a red light on any of the gate drivers? One other item (maybe should have been first) I se...

LDU won't spin. No errors. [SOLVED]
I'm having trouble getting an LDU to spin. It's in Run mode and set to Forward direction, but when I apply throttle, nothing happens. I’ve calibrated the throttle, and when I plot it, it maps smoothly to the throttle angle. However, the current remains at 0, and the voltage remains relatively consta...

Re: Tesla DC DC when OFF / 12V charging
Couple ideas: 0) Fix the parasitic drain issue. 1) Use a solar panel-powered "tender". 2) Use an Arduino/MCU in "Deep Sleep" mode to wake up every n hours and check the 12V battery level. If it's below a certain threshold, wake the car up to top off the 12V. Be sure to handle low...

Re: Porsche Taycan module NXP style BMS solutions?
i modified mine to use a external bms, very time consuming and expensive. Yeah, I'm trying to avoid going that route myself, but I'm glad you got yours working. These BMSs are about the same price, but I'm leaning toward the WDR because automotive is clearly mentioned as an application, and it has ...

Porsche Taycan module NXP style BMS solutions?
I picked up some Porsche Taycan modules for a good price. Does anyone have any experience with or thoughts on these BMS systems?

Re: Fuse recommendation for battery boxes
Ah, ok. Should I just put one of these at each of my two battery boxes? Do I even need the fuse box, or can I just wire them without? I would put a fuse in each battery box as close to the cells as possible, connected with bus bars, so the chance of a short in-between the fuse and cells is extremel...

Re: Fuse recommendation for battery boxes
Hi, I was hoping someone could recommend a fuse for each of my battery boxes. I will have two boxes, each with 5 x 39v LIfePo4 modules, in series to make a total of 390v fully charged at the motor (SDU). Currently I have a Tesla harness with the Pyro Fuse and box/connectors/long cables. I don't kno...

Re: Question about inertia switch
Leveraging the HVIL sounds like the ideal approach, but simply switching the car to neutral is much more straightforward and most likely "good enough" from a practical standpoint. I would maybe later add a separate Arduino/controller to detect the inertia switch, wait for the car to stop, ...

Re: Question about inertia switch
I would read through this thread carefully: https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3564 Several solutions are proposed, including having the inertia switch put the car into neutral, adding a capacitor + diode, using software (E.g., Arduino, etc.) to perform an intelligent "emergency shu...

Are you using the Motor RPM/SPEED CAN message from the Openinverter board to determine your road speed on the Arduino?muehlpower wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 10:24 am I have an Arduino in my CAN system. This makes it easy to convert any speed information from CAN or anywhere else and output it at the correct address with the correct scaling.

Re: Driving mechanical speedo from CAN
There are ready-made solutions for 400€ - 600€ from dakota digital or speedhut. An Arduino with a stepper motor should work. The speed could be a problem, as you need up to approx. 3000 rpm. How would one go about driving the Speedhut speedometer via Openinverter? The manual for the Orion MPH varia...

You can click the "Stop Inverter" button in the web interface, but maybe there's a better way.

I also made some videos demonstrating how to install a reversed oil pump in the Front SDU using a bracket and kit I developed and in the Rear SDU using a 3D-printed oil pickup I designed. Re: Tesla's NACS and the Future of Fast Charging in North America
What about folks with a NACS/Tesla charger at home (I.e., wall or mobile connectors)? I assume these units lack all of the payment gateway/authorization stuff... Does charging via NACS connector at home already work with one of Damien's PCS boards (or Zombie VCU) or another OI-based solution? Is the...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
That seems a lot of HV DC contactors built in just to go for a ride when not needed. Maybe you could actually build a dedicated boost charger in the way EMW charger was built. Design is online. Rectification is not needed so no smearing on the AC network... just pure DC chopper. There is even Wifi ...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
Naturally, the next question is: does it scale? Could you do 3, 4, or even 6 motors in parallel? I recently had a long conversation with my neighbor. He wants to build a large mobile platform for Burning Man to crawl across the playa, potentially with up to six motors. His idea is to use a full Tesl...

Re: Parallel Onboard Charging?
Did you mean AC charge via the motors? I am not sure the circuit would see this any different than AC charging in paralell. You would need to assure the same connection for L and N allways! SDU is a drive unit which can feed batery mechanicaly via regen. Did you mean PCS? Each PCS is 11kW charger s...

Parallel Onboard Charging?
If I had a 100kWh Tesla battery pack powering two Openinverter Tesla SDUs, could I simultaneously use both units' onboard 5kW charging capability to charge the battery at ~10kW? The idea is to have two separate 5kW solar setups, each feeding a separate SDU connected to the same battery. So, each SDU...
