Re: [DRIVING] BMW Touring + phev motor & inverter

Touch wood but it is running well.

Managed to sort out the front BMS and balance the pack, and the new coupler is doing its thing. It's a daily driver for me or the wife as an overnight charge is 3p/mile - well happy at the moment.

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

So in the end i modified the code to do 12mins of discharge, followed by 30 secs of rest time and this ate into the delta much more quickly, though it still took a few days. From the temps i can't see a need for a rest period but I'm sure there was a good reason. However i think i 'll modify the cod...

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

thanks - i was just looking at the code and i see what you are saying. It is actually balancing for 2 minutes, then waiting for two minutes, makes sense as you approach the cutoff but I have a long way to go, so i was wondering about altering those timers, at least whilst i'm so far off but i don't ...

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

Great - that started in balancing if i read the output below correctly. I note it cycles balance on/balance off every minute or so. Is this intentional to let modules cool or something. Could i increase the duration here ? The modules are warm to the touch, but not hot. I've set a low balance point ...

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

i note the 'Series cells fault' note, but I can't at the moment understand what is causing that to appear as I have series cells set correctly to 16.

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

thanks for that. I have my settings set to:-
BalaneSettings.PNG
and my output showing:-

which if i read it right is no balancing going on.

Should this work as configured ?

Re: BMW 330e pack balancing

ok thats good to know.

The balance timer is running. Should the balstat numbers against each module register anything or does it just do its thing quietly ?

Manual discharge of a 60v pack

So on from my last post, i could discharge my high 60v pack some to bring it closer to the others.

Apart from the BMS, what others ways can i discharge it in a controlled way i.e. what loads might i use ?

thanks

BMW 330e pack balancing

I've finally got the BMS on the front pack restored to working order, and one pack of the 6 is 150mv per cell higher across all cells than the others. I've verified the accuracy of the reading by swapping the bms module and i'm comfortable that it's correct, but i will check with a meter. I have a v...

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Touring + prius + phev

Repurposed the rev counter to be eco gauge, an idea shamelessly copied from my mates Mercedes Evan.

Rev counter seemed a bit pointless and this works nicely.

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Touring + prius + phev

no noise from the start, but it was a bit clunky as i didn't have the regen ramp up and down sorted.

according to my local gearbox guy, solid couplers can have issues, and on Land Rovers, the coupling has a life of about 50k miles

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Touring + prius + phev

Short update on this project. The front pack BMS has a few issues. One module is lying about the value of a couple of cells, and pretty sure another module is overstating the voltage a tad as i manually checked and balanced them all. Have been looking at DIYBMS as an alternative as BMW modules are h...

Re: Battery advice

thanks

do you think my 60v charger is ok even though it was made for lead acid ?

I also have a Surron 67.2v 10amp charger which is designed for lipo. Takes each cell to 4.2v which seems like real top end.

Battery advice

My front BMS was giving some odd readings so i thought for safety i'd pull the pack and check things out with a meter. Good job i did as clearly the suspect module on the BMS that was previously not working at all, has now woken up and decided fiction is the way forward. Gave me a fright as it erron...

Did you get the Gen 2 modules separate from the BMS Slaves?
i'm not aware i have any gen 2 modules. i think both myu packs are gen1, and all the modules are black and original to the packs

Re: BMW BMS modules

Mentioned in different threads but will do again. Gen1: All slaves the same Gen2: Only the MasterSlave talks CAN, it then talks some form of ISO SPI to the other slaves. It is a different colour. The pack internal CAN is the same, the MasterSlave spits out all frames for all slaves as it just gathe...

interesting point - the batteries and modules look identical and respond to exactly the same code with no changes.

is that expected between gen1 & gen2 ?

BMW BMS modules

I think one of the BMS modules on 330e pack has died. Seemed to have got wet when the cabin heater sprung a leak. These appear to be individually numbered with a TZ number, and they are all different. Is this related to a can id or similar ? If i replace a module do i have to code it in, or try and ...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS

I'm interested in what have been doing with the pedal mapping. I have my outlander inverter vcu running as very simple code on a Teensy 4.0 It receives data from the main Teensy 4.1 such as what gear the car is in and a regen parameter for each gear the user can modify. My aim was to keep the missio...

Re: [Driving] MG F - Outlander Rear motor and inverter.

those pumps are poor i found - i've had 2 fail. My spare in a roadside emergency is to pinch the one from the cabin heater loop. You're running a similar setup to me Phev rear, phev inverter, BMW battery pack. I initially ran the Prius inverter with openinverter board, but switched to oem invert and...
