Engovis EVS-BMS - still available? And any place ship to North America?

Originally, I wanted to get a SimpBMS but saw that the EVS-BMS was a newer version that replaced it. But I can’t find anywhere that has it in stock, much less one that is willing/able to ship to North America (Toronto, Canada specifically). Anyone have any suggestions? I suppose I could get the Simp...

Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]

Well it’s been an interesting time of late… When I first completed the conversion give or take a few small issues, the car ran faultlessly for a year or so, which certainly led me into a false sense of security, as over the past four months it’s just been one challenge after another. The biggest ca...

Re: Help trying to get my LDU to spin for the first time

SUCCESS!!!! After months of waiting for parts, replacing bearings and seals and then wiring everything up, the used motor that I bought 5 months ago that I had no idea whether is functional, actually spins! Two things I ended up doing: 1. Needed to increase the boost value from default is 1700 to 10...

Re: Help trying to get my LDU to spin for the first time

Thanks everyone for the responses. I did recheck/test everything as per the video. All initial meter readings on the inverter were fine. The board is getting power and when I turn the axles manually and plot the speed it registers so I know the encoder wiring and connections are also good. Again the...

Help trying to get my LDU to spin for the first time

Hi Everyone, I'm reaching out to get some troubleshooting tips on getting my LDU too spin on low voltage. Here's where I've gotten to: - Openinverter board connected to LDU powers up fine and I can get to the home page. - Using a 30V 10A bench power supply for HV testing and a freshly charged car ba...

Re: Can you run an LDU without contactors in low voltage testing?

Thank You! But do I just not make the connections on the 23-pin connector to the contractors? And will a 30V/10A powersupply be enough? On the 23-pin connector, I've connected: Pins 1, 7 (and 23 once for starting) for 12V+ Pin 11 for ground Pins 9, 10, 16, 17, 18 for encoder Pins 12, 13, 15 for Acce...

Can you run an LDU without contactors in low voltage testing?

Hi Everyone, I've been reading up on this form and will be starting a build thread shortly. I've rebuilt my LDU with the openinverter controller board. I've so far been able to connect 12V power to it, get into the interface page and calibrate my throttle pedal. I've also connected the encoder lines...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance

Just to document what I did (in case anyone has the same question): There is an excess of grease in the female spline of the primary gear that fits on the end of the rotor shaft that gets pooled up on the surfaces where it’s not used. I just rolled the shaft around these surfaces and used that. The ...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance

Okay. Got the rotor back in and end plate on but not the coolant seal and cover yet. That's enough for tonight. In the future, does anyone know what kind of grease goes on the spline end of the shaft?

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance

Hi Everyone, I've been combing through all these pages, Howard's site and Johan's youtube videos (thanks to everyone who's contributed to this body of knowledge!) and need some tips. I've disassembled my LDU and am now in the process of re-assembly after waiting months to get new seals (Chengming) a...

Re: Porsche 981 Cayman S (2014)

Axles: A relatively major milestone. After some/many hours of measurement and trolling thru various online catalogs, I managed to find some suitable CV axle shafts. For Stub Axles, I purchased the Zero-EV 930 stubs during my mockup phase as I knew I wanted to stick with as close to a factory axle a...

Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]

Thank you. I'm in Toronto. And thanks to this thread and many other threads on this forum, I've established that I'll be using the Tesla LDU with the reverse oil pump. I'll get into more details in my own thread, but general thought is I'll also use some Chevy Volt gen 2 batteries and a Tesla charge...

Re: Porsche Boxster 986 Tesla conversion [FINISHED]

Hi All, Finally found a car that I'll be starting this on... '06 Cayman S with a bore-scored engine, but only 67k kms (not miles!). As I start re-reading this thread and preparing a list of things to buy, I'm looking for advice on what driveshaft parts I need and how to source. Do I need these from ...

Re: Porsche 981 Cayman S (2014)

Have you checked the local laws. At present you cannot build/convert a car to EV in Ontario. Not sure where you are in Canada but certain provinces will not touch it for insurance or registration. Have you confirmed this? Looking at this MTO site, it looks like it is not prohibited... http://www.mt...
