Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors
Okay, awesome, thank you! I'll work on those changes asap and see what testing I can do with the boards I already have. Then I'll post another revision and see what everyone thinks before ordering more parts.

Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors
Hmm, I believe it could handle the economised contactor current, but I'm not sure if it will like the initial spike before the pwm kicks in. It will share the power supply, yes. My hope was that it would be able to work with a variety of contactors and boards so as to benefit as many people as possi...

Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors
Well shoot that's embarrassing! I'll double check the actual part I used - thought I had probed that part of the board and are the time believed it was working. The intent was to convert the negative signal coming from the OpenInverter to a positive signal as needed by the DRV103. Is there a way to ...

Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors
Gave it a try but no dice. I have never done actual pcb design before though, so perhaps there are still hidden errors..
Here's the project file if anyone is interested.

Re: DIY Economiser for OEM Contactors
I have done some trials with the drv series and haven't had much success. Damn things were sometimes opening or closing the contractors without an actual change in signal. Even the TI tech support couldn't figure it out. They also told me their datasheet was wrong and the input signal could be highe...

Ah perfect, thank you very much! Sorry I didn't see "SwitchReversed" as an option for Dirmode in the parameters.

Motor reversing with OI board - what's the best way?
Okay I hope I'm just overthinking this, but I'd appreciate some input. And maybe a brief discussion would be helpful to others. I have a gen2 Leaf inverter with an Openinverter board, and I need to reverse the direction of the motor due to how it's mounted in the car. My first thought was to simply ...

Re: Chrysler Pacifica Battery Info
Okay, I got the connectors mentioned above and they do plug in and seem to be correct. Also, after some digging I think there might be a better way. Those KET connectors seem to be hard to get in North America and in quantities under 1000. Mine were ordered on Aliexpress and may not be genuine, thou...

Is it actually a snap ring though, or is it a hog ring (like on an impact gun)?

Re: Emergency Stop Wiring
Would putting it in neutral stop you if you find yourself in an unintended acceleration situation? We've seen that happen before, be it from unintended regen or who knows what else. In the industrial world, an emergency stop priotitises human safety over machine safety, and in certain cases an e-sto...

Chrysler Pacifica Battery Info
Okay, I would eventually like to get this into a Wiki page, but for now maybe it's best to vomit a bunch of info here. I just tore down a 2021 model year batter and thought others may want to see some more details of the internals. There are some teardown videos out there, but I have never seen anyo...

Re: Nissan Leaf Resolver offsets
Following this thread. I've been wondering about this too. I haven't heard anything about it being 180 degrees out, but it would be really nice if we could decode these values in order to enter the appropriate reverse offset..

Re: PWM OUT! the output for the tachometer, how to set it up correctly? Is it possible?
If you're taking about doing this from the Openinverter board, I don't believe that's possible. It's not PWM anymore, it's a frequency output tht you need I'm in the same boat, I've searched the forum and so far the best option seems to be to use a Teensy or similar microcontroller with the appropri...

Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!
Hm, the ones I had in mind did have cooling, but I later learned they never made it to North America. D'oh! It's kind of looking like I am stuck waiting for either a BMW or Pacifica battery, can't really find any other options in the ~12-16 kWh range. The BMW battery is appealing because of the slig...

Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!
Okay, I have sold my Volt batteries and am hunting hard for something else. I have found both a Pacifica battery and a 12kWh BMW battery in the USA for as little as $2000 USD, but once you figure in >1000 kms worth of cross-border freight charges, it's ~$4k CAD and that's a bit more than I was hopin...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?
Just stumped across this and thought it was very interesting. I have no idea how trustworthy this is, but it appears as though someone has done some nice extensive testing. Keep in mind it's a single cell though, so the current output is probably markedly lower when stacked together in the modules. ...

Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!
Yeah, you're right. I originally asked my friend because of the machined fit I need for the bearings, before he told me he wasn't sure how well that would turn out on his machine. I will probably be using them for other stuff though, including my battery enclosure. My combat robotics club was actual...

Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!
Yeah I've watched Damien's videos but couldn't find any instances of a WOT pull on the BMW packs on their own (before he added the other cells in parallel). It may also come down to a question of availability - the Pacifica batteries seem a bit more common around here (and aren't subject to wreckers...

Re: Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!
Not much of an update, but I have been delving into the idea of different batteries (Thanks Alibro for planting the idea of the BMW cells). It looks like either Pacifica or BMW hybrid cells would fit well in my engine bay, negating the need to cut part of the frame out, and vastly simplifying the ba...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?
Haha, I guess I should have said Lotus 7 replica, that way it's less ambiguous. Been spending too much time on the Locost-specific forums lately. But yes I would absolutely be planning to cool them. That's one of the advantages of the Pacifica batteries, they come with a cold plate! In the case of t...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?
Fair enough... I was hoping to hear some real-world experiences and associated conditions. I sometimes see specs of other batteries listed for current draw, but no testing conditions are given. Not sure if there is anything close to a standard beyond a 10 second burst and whatever 'continuous' truly...

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?
Hmm. I guess the other question I should be asking is, what do we think these batteries can reliably deliver in therms of kW output (with or without cooling)? Specifically the 12kWh packs.. Is 140 too much? That'd be a bit over 10c discharge rate.. Has anyone managed that?

Re: Info on BMW hybrid battery packs?
Does anyone know what info was in those newtis links Damien posted on page 1? They are all dead now.
Would also really like to know what kind of power people are getting from these and how they are cooling them. Thinking about grabbing a 12kwh pack for my Locost build.
