Re: why does my contactor turn off and on rapidly.
I am guilty of not reading the whole thread but if that is your board on the last picture and not just one from the internet, i would give it a good cleaning. I was chasing very sporadic and weird behaviour (in my case overcurrent errors) when I first powered up my LDU oi board. The solution was cle...

Re: Contactor control during charging/driving
Ok so I asked in the simpBMS subforum if my ground switched OR configuration is doable with the simpBMS and the only compromise I have to take seems to be a single additional relay to swap the 12v precharge signal to a "ground signal". Main and negative contactor signals are available as b...

Re: Simp BMS
Hello, i know that kind of the same question was already asked some time back in this forum, but I am not fully satisfied by the answers. The question is about contactor control for charging. My idea is to have a similar setup as it exists in the Model S already: Battery then the contactors (main, n...

Re: Contactor control during charging/driving
Your rev 4 looks a lot how i was planning on doing mine. The only difference is that i would prefer to keep my contactors groundswitched directly by the OI and the simpBMS for simplicity. I have contactors out of an I3 (that should be fine without an economizer circuit) and Tesla Model S contactors ...

Re: Contactor control during charging/driving
Good to know that all your (and probably everybody elses) parts survived HV while being turned off. To go a little more into detail with your setup: What BMS do you use? (all those question kind of only make sense if you use simpBMS or something similar capable of more than only balancing) Does you ...

Re: Contactor control during charging/driving
At least that's how it is with the Model 3. The 12V are switched off. (LDU at charging no 12V, Charger at driving no 12V). I feel/think the same, looking at OEM hardware they all (i think) just use one set of contactors to cut the battery off for all HV components at the same time. To repeat your q...

Re: Contactor control during charging/driving
Since I am currently seperated from my beloved project back in my parents garage due to university far away, I just continued the thinking part of this problem. I found multiple solutions that all have their specific flaws: 1) Charger directly connected to Battery, Motor connected via (inverter cont...

Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
After investing some time without progress I chose to go the „work your job for the time and buy it route“ and just ordered a programmed olimex board from Johu. That worked flawlessly. So depending on how high you value your own work hour and how much fun you have with poking around in code written ...

Re: Pre-programmed ESP8266 WI-FI password
Didnt find a better suited thread and dont think it is worth its own thread. Are all preprogrammed olimex boards equal? I have one perfectly fine in my LDU and one that never worked and does not even want to be flashed with a simple blink sketch. The second one came with my gen 2 tesla charger pcb f...

Does the LDU (or SDU) have a problem with HV connected while no 12V is supplied?

I would happily rent yours out for a while to fit my mounts.

Re: HOWTO: Flashing ESP8266
Hello, I bought a built gen 2 charger board (V5aB3) but the wifi is not working at all (no signal found). I am trying to flash the needed file onto the wifi mod esp8266 using the arduino ide. I am not sure which file to flash though. I tried with johu's esp8266-web-interface.ino and from Damien's ch...

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
Is there a way to test the wifi module alone (maybe with just power and gnd to get a useless wifi signal?) or does it need connection to the board? What jumpers should be jumped on the backside of the wifi mod (mine is in flash mode)? I also took a closer look at all solderjoints on the wifi mod and...

Hi probably a stupid question but i have 12V connected to B1 and -12V to B7 just to take a peek into the wifi interface but I am not able to find it. All 4 led s light up (one orange flashing) as they are supposed to i think but no wifi showing in my settings. Do I need to connect more to start up t...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit Support Thread
Hi, Is there a possibility to enter a „charge mode“? I planned on having my charger behind the contactors controlled by the LDU but then i always would need my keys in ignition for charging. Worst case I will just run additional cables for the charger to the battery before the contactors but it woul...

Contactor control during charging/driving
Hello, I have not started any work on my tesla Gen 2 charger yet but already have a „problem“. My plan was to connect my BMW I3 battery with the OEM BMW contactors in line to the Tesla Model S rear HV junction box. Said junction box seemed like a nobrainer for me since it has the fuses and connectio...

Re: Stainless steel battery box
Hi What ist the thickness of the stainless steel and would you, if you built a new box go with thicker or thinner sheets? I am trying to fit all 200kg of my I3 Battery in a single box and was wondering what sheet thickness to get. My design sadly has no space for X-creases but I have two 20mm thick ...

Re: Drive units with failed inverters
Hi does anyone have one of the detachable motor mounts of an LDU left from a broken unit? The breaker yard i got the motor from is very uncommunicative, does not reply to my messages about the missing mount and is roughly 1500km far away so i can't really just go there and ask in person. (I am looki...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit Support Thread
Yes of course. Thx. I suspected that this is all that is necessary. I tested it this morning by just removing power to my Forward / Reverse selector switch. I haven't decided exactly yet, but probably a three position selector switch with indicator lights for Forward, Neutral and Reverse will work ...

Ok to answer myself:
The brand of both connectors is called Kostal and produces a variety of HV connectors.
I was not able to find the ones in question for sale online and therefore have sent them an email asking if they do sell small quantities.

I3 HV Connectors
I have an I3 60Ah Pack and plan to rearrange the modules and therefore need to make new cables. Did anyone manage to do so with the original connector type? If yes are these connectors available to buy and where? I am looking for both the module to module as well as the s-box to battery-plug connect...

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit Support Thread
Swapping the encoder channels fixed it. Thank you for the help.
Is it normal that I have to press about 20 percent of the throttle before the motor starts to spin up? I am pretty sure I calibrated it correctly. Is the calculated throttle ramp one linear line between min and max or is there a deadband?
