Re: Multi-pole 48V motors
Maybe Volabo have lots of parallel 48 volt circuits then if one circuit short circuits, it doesn't effect the others, so lower fault level...

Re: Multi-pole 48V motors
There used to be multipole induction motors that people used to buy for industrial processes. This was before the days of variable speed drives. Multipole motors are not as efficient as say 2 pole motors. And motors designed to have multipole switching lose a little bit more efficiency again, they a...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Thanks arber333 for that :). I still want to use the other IGBT bridge because my set up is for the Gen 3 inverter to control a Gen 2 Prius transaxle. I have had a shaft made to join the generator and motor together. So plan to use the motor most of the time, then for higher speeds use the generator...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
I would like to use the gen 3 inverter with as higher battery voltage as possible. It seems from this forum nominally 308 volts is the maximum that can be safely used, or with lithium batteries with max allowable voltage of 3,6V per cell, 3.6*85 = 306 volts. Probably stick to 83 cells for more safet...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Those of us waiting for boards, are we getting V1 or V2 now? I'm easy either way. Had it been available in kit form, I would have gone for that. With regards to using the clone boards, there's no sense in soldering up the circuits when they can be had for so cheap ready made. I am the same as Bigpi...

Re: Lexus Inverter Hacking
i intend getting voltages off of the DC/DC connector off the side of the inverter when i get a chance with either voltmeters and or with a picoscope. I have a Toyota Camry Hybrid 2012 on the lawn to test with. Will submit oscillographs here when i can. I have just picoscoped either NODD pin 21 or VL...

Meanwell dc supplies are often used in electrical substations so they have a reasonable reliability.

Maybe press a soldering iron onto the middle of the philips head screw, once the screw is hot screw it out? Being careful not to scorch anything else that might be important such as a wire pressing against a screw etc.

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
I have been able to get one of the Prius Gen 2 3 phase motor connectors to fit a Prius Gen 3 inverter connector by shaving a bit off of the sides of the flat connector. This took about 15 mins work. At the moment, I have not been able how to work out how to convert the second Prius Gen 2 cable to Pr...

[quote=Rouwdy post_id=1554 time=1560361583 user_id=189] Thanks again john. I'm not too scared of 220v and I've done my fair share of fixing "electricians" death traps . Ironically we picked up 3 pallets of isolators and switch boards on the weekend for 25 dollars. Some are 3 phase industri...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
I have had a look at the actual cable for the GEN3 MG1 and MG2 connections. It is labelled: Sumitomo EX30 8 hd. I found a pdf that shows 2 graphs. One for TEEX and one for EX30 cables. Ours is EX30, but the graph for 8mm2 is only on the TEEX graph. So roughly interpolating, I get about ~80 amps at 6...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
No worries Rouwdy, glad I am of some assistance. Timing, what is your timing? If you need it now, i would buy controller boards from what is available on this website or evbmw or somewhere like that, and make sure you pay sufficient amount that will guarantee you some sort of advice, like at the ver...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Hi Rouwdy, i intend using my Prius Gen 3 to run a Prius Gen 2 transaxle. In my case i am making MG1 and MG2 run at the same speed. For what you want to do, you need to get mechanical power out of the transaxle. so you could use the 1/2 shaft to connect to the pump. The other side of the transaxle yo...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
50mm2 area cable equates to 8mm diameter. So that would mean copper pipe with 8mm inside diameter is required. copper pipe is much cheaper than the lugs. The long lug cost $5. I have seen them on Ebay for $50. you will need a proper crimper to get the copper strands to have good contact with the tub...

Re: Prius gen2 hardware worth grabbing?
might be useful for solar projects for changing dc voltage from one voltage to another, or dc to ac.
might be able to use solar, a hybrid battery, this inverter and create a stationary system to at least get your house lights off grid.

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
The original cable for powering the Prius Gen3 was via two aluminium cables. I did not like the current carrying capacity of this so created a 50mm2 copper cable and lug set to replace the original cables in the same plastic socket fitting, please see pic below. I am using second hand welding cable ...

A few years ago, i paid ~$30 to access the Toyota Technical site for 2 weeks. During that time, i was able to download some info on the Toyota Camry Hybrid AVV50x. There were two pages that talked about a pressure sensor in the inverter Please see pics below. (hope this info is useful, apologies if ...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
I have also had a special spindle made up for the Prius trans-axle so that MG1 and MG2 always run at the same speed. Unfortunately for this first version, i forgot to add a part to drive the oil pump at the end of the motor. So i am having to make my own oil pump with a 12 volt pump to drive the oil...
